The American Idol is the US government. Most americans sing hymns in praise, gives oaths of allegiance, tithe it, and consider it the True Answer to all social problems. A century or two ago, belief in supernatural intelligent critters was the main force inhibiting freethinking. Those days are gone; anyone can openly live as an atheist these days without fear of being burned at the stake. Today, the US Government God kidnaps and disappears people at will, and leads its believing flocks to war and destruction. Our next task as freethinkers is to destroy the irrational belief in State.

Sorry Hogeye, I don't want to go back to the days when I would be tortured or hung until I "confessed" my beliefs, and then - presupposing I survived the questioning - hung for them. I may not be perfectly happy with all of this government's activities, and in fact am not, but I want my freedom to exercise my religion firmly protected by an entity strong enough to do it.

Hey Betsy, I would love to talk about American Idol! As a singer I have been watching it pretty faithfully this time around. That one guy that is bald with the real rocking voice is my favorite. I loved him since his audition. That other guy, Bucky, is awesome too and then so are all the young females. It's going to be so sad when they have to start cutting the ranks now that pretty much everyone left is talented and wonderful in their own way.
And, ah, Hogeye, what's with the continual anti-government rant? American Idol is a fluffy television show for goodness sake. Do you ever consider anything besides "the (big bad) state" and reefer?

Chris (the bald headed guy) is my favorite, too, ever since his first audition when they did the little back story about him. I read where the band he covered last week (Fuel?) loved his performance and are actually looking for a new lead singer and considering him.
I really liked young David, too, the crooner who got kicked off last time. He was so cute and sweet.
Thanks, Barbara, for the humor. You're right, just go to NWAP and you'll see who THEIR idol is. Barf.
Thanks, Tamara, for pointing that out. I'm glad Hogeye is adding to all of the discussions, but SHEESK, I was trying to take a light-hearted turn here.

Betsy, I was watching the elimination show today and forgot to ask you if you watched the elimination show from last Thursday. I was pretty positive that Paula Abdul was totally ripped last week. Simon looked it too. Their eyes were all glossy and Paula could hardly put together a coherant sentence and they were all giggly. It looked to me like they smoked a big fatty or something just before the show. Did anyone else notice this?
yes!! she was messed up. I thought they might apologize or something this week, but no. that was the most interesting part of the show, though, dontcha think?
I missed it Thursday, but saw who they eliminated. I think they should have cut the squirrely little boy who looks like Chicken Little instead of Will, but whatever. I didn't vote, so I can't complain. (My vote doesn't matter)

Sorry for my late reply. I too thought that Kevin would be toast last week. I can't believe that he wasn't even in the bottom 3! I don't know if he'll get the boot tonight. I'm thinking that it may be that 16 year old girl who gets the axe. I think her name is Lisa. She is real cute and sings well, but she just hasn't been showing that spark the last few weeks. Most everyone else has been getting better and I think she hasn't. Kevin is seriously lame though and should go, but he does get the underdog support. I imagine that every funny looking person in this country will try to keep him on a little longer, and I've seen more than a few funny looking people around! Hmmm...if that's the case he may make it to the top 3....NOT!
Chris is still my fave though Mandesa (is that even close to the right spelling?) has an incredible voice and can sing anything. Oh, and Katherine's voice is just beautiful. And who can forget Taylor, aka the drunken dad. Should be a good competition.

I'm wondering if it's "fixed" -- I think you were right about Chicken Little getting the underdog support.
I really like Elliot Yamin, too. Even though his performances haven't been stellar lately, his version of "Moody's Mood for Love" was so phenomenal he's still riding on that. It's better than the original!
I think Chris will probably win, he's so popular. And, deservedly so. Mandisa's great, too, but she's really pushing her Christian thing in the media, and that's kind of a turn off. For me, anyway.
Simon's comments are really always right on, I have to agree with him every time...

Wow, tonight was a shocker...I can't believe that Katherine was in the bottom three and Bucky wasn't! It just goes to show that no one is safe. I'm still reeling after that one.
Paris was just bawling after they cut Lisa, that made me want to cry too. I thought Lisa took it well, but I think that she was expecting it. I think she will still have a very bright future. After all, she is only 16!

I've never been able to understand how these people can get kicked off a show and smile and go on to sing a song. There's NO WAY I could sing a song after getting kicked off. I'd probably burst into tears and scream "I HAAAATTTEE YOUUUUUUUU ALLLLLLL!!!!" and run run away.
I was really surprised it was Kathryn and not Bucky, although I tend to agree with Simon it that it could have been anyone after the sucky show Tuesday night, but still he should have been nicer to her about it.

I thought American Idol IS one of the horrible things happening in the world.
Geez, it's not like it's Star Trek or something...
"We could have done something important Max. We could have fought child abuse or Republicans!" --Oona Hart (played by Victoria Foyt), in the 1995 movie "Last Summer in the Hamptons."
Bye bye Bucky. I was hoping Ace would go. He bugs me for some reason. I thought Bucky was pretty cool. Granted, he wasn't the best singer of the group, but he seemed like he'd be a lot of fun to go hang out with. Bucky also had the most graceful exit of all the people to leave so far.
I'm a little worried. I never knew American Idol could be so addictive! Will I go into withdrawal when the season ends? I hope I don't get the shakes or something. Maybe Betsy and I will be seen hanging out at karaoke bars for awhile after the final show.

I totally agree about Bucky and Ace. Ace is kind of stupid and silly, just getting by on his looks. Bucky did seem cool. I missed the show last night because I went to the movies but read about it online as soon as I got home!
The show is kind of losing steam, I think. At first everyone seemed so talented and great, but these theme nights are killing them. But of course, that's not stopping me or the other 40 million people from watching every week...

I'm not much of a TV fan except for some PBS stuff. Although Sherry likes American Idol and I think she watches it an a regular basis. I'm over here in Singapore again and they show American Idol over here as well. I think it maybe a 2 days after it airs in the US but it seems very popular.
So since I don't have many options in TV viewing I have been spending my time reading the measage board, reading or out walking around Singapore. When I started to read this thread and Hogeye had posted one of his rants about the "state" I could not believe what he was saying.
You know, some closets just have coats in them. Hogeye has a closet full of coats and they are all the same size, color, style and make!

I'm excited to announce that you can re-watch all of elliot yamin's performances by going to www.yaminions.com and clicking on "media" - he is really good, especially Moody's Mood for Love - it's better than the original.
Tamara: (this is just between me and Tamara now, for all you haters)
Who do you think will get the boot tonight? I thought all the performances were really strong last night, with the exception of Kellie. I would have guessed that Ace would be kicked off tonight, but he managed to pull a horseshoe out of his you-know-where and was really pretty good. I predict the bottom three will be Ace, Elliot and Paris, and that Elliot (unfortunately) will get kicked off. He'll be fine, though, I also predict he'll have a Michael-Buble'-esque album out by the end of the year.
These are not PSYCHIC predictions, just guesses.
