Split from Politics: Books and Feb. Meeting
James H.
IF you'd like to read MY book, "Dinner with W.T., The Cybermouth Chronicles (Featuring "Ruth Ann's Hacking in the Breadbox"), I'd be glad to arrange to get you a copy. I doubt very much you'd find it on the same level as the "D's" books, but it's a fun little read.
Sorry for the shameless self-promotion, but I live north of the mall, and it's hard to find people who know how to read here.....
BTW: I AM signed in, and the damn thing still won't let me post under my name!!! I hate computers.

Baber,
I should be at the next Freethinkers meeting on the 25th of February. If you bring a book I will bring some money! That is if you attend the meetings. I have made it a goal to learn more about religion this year and Doug and Darrel's books were recommend as good starting points.
I know I should be posting this over in the religion thread. I think I will go over to the religion area and post what I learned.

Doug and I and Baber at least I guess. Also our friend and physicist Bill Harter (but his is VERY technical). This gives me an idea. We need to have a page on the website listing and informing people about books written by local freethinkers. Duh.

Hey, after the Freethinker meeting on the 25th we are going to have a get-together at my place (Henschell's happy goat farm). Hopefully Sav can be there and we can help people with general forum stuff like even getting cool avatars (little pictures by your name) set up for everyone that wants one.

Bill doesn't like it when we refer to his explanations of relativity and QM as hard, but nonetheless, they are. Here is his webpage:

The meeting will go until about 4:30. Then we will need to eat. We can either go out, like usual, or maybe I'll order some fancy pizza we can eat at my place.I'm pretty sure I can make the meeting at the library. Where is your goat farm & how late will the get-together start/run?
It still gets dark early now. How far out do you live? Perhaps we can arrange a ride. My "goat farm" is a joke and the punchline would be when you see it. I have three little pet goats running around in the back yard. I live on hwy 16 east, one mile from the crossover intersection (a little before the bridge).I can't drive after dark.

I live on the west side of town (1 block north of Wedington, 1 block east of 540). Mayhap I can join you guys for food after the meeting, if you decide to eat out - surely there's someplace around the library that isn't too expensive. Where do you usually go?
So, are your pet goats really pets or do you have them for the milk? My sister had a pair of goats some 30-odd years ago because her son couldn't digest cows' milk. She got tired of milking them about the time the City of Austin discovered she had them. Fortunately, by then Ivan didn't need the special milk anymore.

We usually go to a mexican place over by Zion and Crossover. But that's very adjustable.
The goats really are pets. I grew up on a dairy farm and have no interest in being tied to a milking schedule. These are little goats with little udders and drinking something that comes out of your pet is just a little weird. The real reason I bought some goats a few years ago was so we would have a mascot and attraction for our freethinker booth. This was at the time when Mel Gibson's "The Passion" had just came out and we wanted to teach people where this bizzare idea of someone carrying away sins came from. You can read our tract on this here:
http://fayfreethinkers.com/tracts/scapegoat.shtml
The goat in that picture is "Sinbad" the father of "Belle" (shown above). He was our original scapegoat. We would have people at the booth come forward and put their sins on him. After some time he became so full of sin that many demons entered him. This caused him to go under my house and break a water pipe. One day these demons so furious they caused him to get on the roof of my house and jump on my hottub lid causing it to sag quite a bit. Deciding that he had reached maximum sin level the decision was made to take him to market. So it seems that in the end, like Jesus, Sinbad paid the ultimate price for sin.

If the restaurant is adjustable, would you mind something a little more central? Aren't there a couple of Mexican food places down School? Or B&B Barbeque is nice (unless you're vegetarians), and fairly close to the library. Also just to double-check - the meeting is Saturday, Feb 25th, as in next Saturday, correct?

Yes, the meeting in question will take place on Saturday, February 25, at 2:00pm at the Fayetteville Public Library. We will be in either the board room or the large meeting room to the right of the information desk.
I propose we use this thread to come to an agreement on where to go for an after-meeting meal. Here's what we need to consider:
I propose we use this thread to come to an agreement on where to go for an after-meeting meal. Here's what we need to consider:
- A central location is preferable.
- We have vegetarians among us.
- Mexican is not a must.
- There will be partying afterward.
My son tells me the Thai Diner is good - that's the place that changes names about every 2 years just north of Maple on College.
& Betsy, it's only sort of like the last presidential election if whoever counts the votes throws out 2% as "spoiled" - and wires the counting program in at least 4/50ths to record whatever restaurant he (or she) prefers.

Well, this conversation kind of died on the vine, didn't it? Anybody ever decide where dinner will be held?
If the meeting is at 2 p.m., and restaurant afterward, what time generally would that make dinner?
I've got to go to the <expletive> Ball at the Mall Saturday night and I can't get out of it. But I'm going to try and make the meeting and restaurant time...

I'm probably not going to hit this site again before the meeting tomorrow, so I guess we can make the final decision there. In a sense, I don't care (as long as you don't suggest someplace that only serves raw squid or something like that), as long as it's going to allow me to spend time with folks I consider to be friends, even though I've never actually met them, and still get home before dark.
