LAS VEGAS Videotapes from cameras in the parking garage where Congressman Jim Gibbons is alleged to have tried to sexually assault a cocktail waitress are now in the hands of Las Vegas police.
That's according to the lawyer for Crescent Properties, which owns the structure where Chrissy Mazzeo says Gibbons grabbed her and propositioned her on October 13th...
Gibbons is running for Nevada governor against Democrat Dina Titus.
...At first, police said there were no surveillance tapes of the inside of the garage...
Mazzeo says Gibbons tried to force himself on her, but Gibbons says he was helping her up after she tripped.
Both have said they are willing to take lie-detector tests.

I think it's a power thing. Guys (or at least apparently guys) who get into power seem to think that gives them droit de seignur (yes, I know I didn't spell it right) over any female they see. It's predominantly R these days, but the Dems haven't been slouches either. I prefer Bill Clinton, who for all the jokes and negative hype, doesn't chase - of course he also doesn't turn down anything offered, but he doesn't chase.

Mazzeo dropped the complaint the day after the alleged incident and told police it was because she did not want to start a media circus and "because of who he is."
But last week, Mazzeo, having retained a lawyer, called a news conference to claim she was threatened, pressured and offered money through an intermediary to change her story. Mazzeo said the intermediary was a friend who told her her life was in danger and "if you don't drop this, Chrissy, they will kill you, your baby and your family."
Gibbons called the remarks defamatory and outrageous. Gibbons' lawyer, Don Campbell, called her an "exceedingly troubled young lady," and her friend, a Republican who had been part of the group in the bar, said "she needs to strongly consider seeking professional help."
When Mazzeo initially dropped her complaint, police said there was not enough evidence a crime was committed, largely because there were no witnesses and video surveillance cameras in the parking garage were not working. More than a week later, though, the company that owns the garage said it turned the tapes over to the police, who refused to confirm they existed.
Gibbons won a judge's ruling Tuesday ordering the release of the videotapes that he said would prove he never touched the woman. The tapes were ordered released to attorneys for Gibbons and Mazzeo; the footage was not immediately made public.
