Some of you may recall that Bull O'Reilly went on The Late Show with David Letterman a while back and Letterman told O'Reilly that most of what he said was crap, and so on. Letterman really let O'Reilly have it.

Well, O'Reilly went on Letterman's show again and this time Letterman made his previous appearance look like a walk in the park.

Even before O'Reilly came out, Letterman made his feelings clear.

''I'm secretly hoping when Bill O'Reilly comes out here, I'll have the opportunity to call him a bonehead,'' Letterman said.

They discussed the Iraq war and the upcoming midterm election, with O'Reilly saying that Americans are depressed by the progress of the Iraq war and that they would rather watch escapist entertainment like Dancing with the Stars than the news.

He asked Letterman: ``Are you going to be on Dancing with the Stars?''

''Ha ha,'' Letterman said. ``You bonehead.''

Letterman said that, like many Americans, he was so angered in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that he wanted to strike out and didn't oppose the Iraq war at its beginning. As time has gone on, he said he has realized that was wrong.

Asked by O'Reilly whether he wanted the Americans to win the war, Letterman said he wanted a solution that would result in the least loss of American lives.

As part of their confrontation, O'Reilly said Letterman was guilty of oversimplifying a complicated situation.

''You're putting words in my mouth,'' he told Letterman at one point.

''You're putting artificial facts in your head,'' Letterman responded.

O'Reilly told the audience that he and Letterman were really friends. ''This whole thing is a big act,'' he said.

Letterman never agreed with him.

''I have no idea what I'm talking about,'' Letterman said. ``But I don't think you do, either.''

At one point O'Reilly asks Letterman to believe him about something and Letterman said "I can't, because I'm a thoughtful person" or something like that.

Does Letterman have enough "pull" to convince dittoheads they might be better off finding someone else to "ditto"?

actually, I saw a clip of this and thought Letterman came off as rude and not really that great of a "roaster" since he had to admit he hadn't read O'Reilly's book because he didn't like the name of it or the cover or something like that. It would have been so much better if he had read it and could refute the points in it .

Yes, Letterman tried, on both occasions, to deflect some of the heat by saying some self-depracating remarks. But people know what he really things of O'Reilly.

I saw the show. You could tell that Dave really hates O'Lierly. His face was blood red during the entire interview. He didn't really do a very good job of tearing in to him. But, he gets my kudos for trying. O'Lierly is a bastard.

Of course, I totally agree, and can't stand O'Really! either. I also saw him on Oprah the other day, and you could tell she hates him too, but she had more restraint. The show was sort of an open forum where the audience was asking BO questions - some were like "I'm a fox news junkie and i agree with everything you say" and he'd say "You're a WARRIOR!" and anyone who disagrees with him is a "SP" which means something progressive, which means you're a dirty dirty liberal who's taking this country straight to hell in a handbasket. He was absolutely SICKENING. Anyone trying to make a point couldn't finish a sentence without him interrupting and calling them an "SP" like it's a dirty word.

If Letterman had read O'Lielly's book he would have even been more pissed with him. I haven't read it of course but I read extensive roast/excerpts at media matters. It is amazingly bad, childish crap. I mean almost Coulter bad. Stunning.
Something that I have enjoyed with both of his visits to the Letterman show is how his voice shakes. He is truly scared when he is off of his turf and faced with a big name, and someone he can't yell down or cut their mike off. Limbaugh is the same way. A coward when he can't be a bully.

Bullys ARE cowards who have a safe, protected corner and smaller people to abuse. I was going to say too bad Oprah didn't shut him down so people could finish what they were saying - but on second thought, I think she did right to let HER audience know what kind of jerk BO is.

actually there were times when Oprah said, "let's let them finish their point" AFTER BO interrupted and ranted. she stayed calm the whole time which was a nice balance, actually. the worst she did was give him a few incredulous looks.
