October 2011 Freethinker Meeting

Hello everyone, it's time for our October meeting of the Fayetteville Freethinkers!

Note that our meeting this month will be on Sunday. On the very eve of Halloween will we gather to discuss
the nefarious things that freethinkers discuss.

Doug Krueger will present our Fallacy of the Month, teaching us about another mistake in reasoning to avoid.

Darrel will talk about conspiracy theories, heater scams and a few other things.

Doug Krueger will also tell us about Ethical Egoism, an ethical theory in which
the right action is defined as the one that furthers one's own self-interest.
Lots of people agree with this moral theory (having picked it up from the author Ayn Rand), but is it tenable?

Also we'll have updates on our winter solstice event and Skepticon which is coming up in November. Perhaps of interest, check out
this new six part series in the Washington Post which is all about the rise of freethinkers and religious skeptics. We've posted the links here.

Meeting Details:

When: Sunday, October 30, 2011.

Where: The Fayetteville Public Library. 401 W. Mountain
St. (two blocks west of the town square). Library phone: 571-2222.

Time: 2:00 - 4:30 pm

Room: The Walker Room, the main meeting room. Go in the front door, through the
lobby and go to your right. Snacks and coffee from Arsaga's in the library lobby is allowed.
