The Quiverfull movement

I came across this article about some thing called the "Quiverfull Movement":

"Quiverfull women accept as many children as God gives them as a demonstration of their radical faith and obedience as well as a means to advance his kingdom: winning the country for Christ by having more children than their adversaries. This self-proclaimed "patriarchy" movement, which likely numbers in the tens of thousands but which is growing exponentially, bases its arguments on Psalm 127: "Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They shall not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate." Quiverfull women commonly give birth to families of eight, 10 and 12 children, or more."

I am a little skeptical of the size. Wiki had a source that said this:

"Its adherents most likely number in the "thousands to low tens of thousands".

I know this group triggers some concerns about over population but I see this tiny group as a novelty. And we need these little buggers to be paying my S.S. in 25 years. Like Europe, our national tendency is toward smaller families and except for some strong immigration we are headed for a leveling off of population.

Aren't the infamous Duggers part of the Quiverfull movement? Pretty sure I've read that somewhere before.

I think I've read that somewhere too, Sherry.

If they can't outsmart us, they'll outbreed us!

I can't imagine the expense of raising such a huge family. Some of the quiverfull families have as many as 20 members, most are under 10 members. They turn out to be quite a misogynistic lot. They consider infertility as a curse and pressure women and men to reverse any birth control surgeries done (reversals are expensive and only work half the time). The quiverful families here in AR should adopt all the babies that can't be adopted by single parents because they probably voted that bill into law.

Yes, the Duggars are definitely part of the Quiverfull movement. Actually, my parents got into it, too, but fortunately, it was too late for them to do anything about it! My mother used to tell me that she wishes she had more kids. :? I myself was taught those values, and am VERY VERY glad I got out of it all, though I never wanted that many children. Walking in the mall a few weeks ago, Steve and I were asked to ask the Duggars a question on camera as part of the show. We declined, but I do wonder about those girls (and others in the movement), who are strongly discouraged from pursuing a college education. Knowing some of the men who champion the movement and embrace those type of values, I feel deeply for those girls who will have no way out. While there are happy marriages in the movement, not everyone can be happy and successful when they are used as a breeding machine.
