GOP Flounders for Talking Points

Post by Doug »

Maybe he was joking, maybe not.

FAUX NEWS's Chris Wallace: ..."I have to say I'm not sure Barack Obama really is the President of the United States because the oath of office is set in the Constitution and I wasn't at all convinced that even after he tried to amend it that John Roberts ever got it out straight and that Barack Obama ever said the prescribed words. I suspect that everybody is going to forgive him and allow him to take over as president, but I'm not sure he actually said what's in the Constitution, there."

The instant I was informed of this "botched" oath, I knew some schmuck would pull this crap. From my understanding of the 20th Amendment (whether by mistake or design), the President-elect becomes President at noon on January 20 regardless of the oath.

Yes, I think that's right. I watched the swearing-in last night (recorded) and a few minutes before Obama was sworn in one of the anchors said he was "now president".

To head off the GOP bullshit machine, Obama re-did the oath and Roberts--and Obama--got it right without a hitch.

Sean Hannity interviewed Rush Limbaugh on Wednesday night, not that I watched it but I read about it on Huffington Post.

Limbaugh he was "suspicious" of Obama, Limbaugh said the facial expressions of Obama supporters were "frightening" and slammed Republicans who've expressed hope that Obama succeeds: "They're drinking the Kool-Aid... they're afraid of being called racists."

ALSO, the right-wingnuts are up in arms over the benediction rhyme that has gotten so much airplay, accusing the reverend and everyone who liked the benediction of being racist.

They're so desperate and mean that they're really pathetic - and it won't take long for them to realize that. Obama is all business and he's going to hold up to their scrutiny. Even they (and that's saying a lot) will be able to see that they're going to have to shut up and get with the program or they'll just be making fools of themselves and look like they're fighting against what's best for the country (talk about unpatriotic!).

DAR
Obama does it again except this time no Buy-bull:

Obama Sworn In Again, With Right Words

After a flawless recitation that included no Bible and took 25 seconds, Roberts smiled and said, "Congratulations, again."

...

"A president is required by the Constitution to say, "I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

At the inauguration, Roberts instead said: "that I will execute the office of president to the United States faithfully."
