Gays Censored on HBO broadcast

Today there was a concert for the inauguration festivities, including Stevie Wonder and a lot of other stars. HBO showed it and has been rerunning it. HOWEVER:
From
here.
Although President-elect Obama did include gays in his mention of the various groups who supported him, HBO not only blacked out Bishop Gene Robinson's [the openly gay Episcopal bishop] invocation at today's inauguration concert, they didn't introduce the Washington DC Gay Men's Chorus when they performed, nor did they identify them onscreen.
After days of controversy and outrage from the religious right, openly gay Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson opened Barack Obama's inauguration concert on the National Mall today with a request that the nation pray for "understanding that our president is a human being and not a messiah."
But only the people AT the concert heard that, because HBO did not televise Robinson's message. Who engineered this blackout of Robinson? I suspect we'll hear lots about this in days to come.
You can complain to HBO
here.

ADULTS IN THE HOUSE? NOT YET . . .
"‘Member when Mom and Dad told you to stand up to bullies and liars ‘cause if you don’t they’ll just get worse?
‘Member when you were taught that if you make a mistake, own up to it like a man or woman, apologize, correct it and move on?
Guess President Elect Barack Obama forgot. ‘Cause he’s all over himself embracing Rick Warren, Saddleback’s megaminister, inviting Warren to give the Inaugural Invocation like THAT’S the way to start your new administration.
We’d all be sick of hearing about Rev. Rick by now, except more and more ugly truths about him keep leaking out."
It's a good revelation...

That scares tha crap out of me! What a nut job. To think that there are 30,000 people in that stadium and a big chunk of those people would use the same tactics that Hitler, Stalin and Mao used to make there point. I believe they call this a "Cult of Personality". Eventually they will stop worshiping God/Jesus and start to worship Rick Warren. Then really bad things will start to happen.

Well now hang on. I
posted this just the other day too so I am open to saying because Warren used this comparison he opens himself to getting a little nazi on him. But to say these people [Warren] "use the same tactics as Hitler, Stalin and Mao" seems to get more totalitarian sauce on him that he deserves. Or to say as Larry's cited article above says "Rev. Rick shared his many visions and communications direct from “God” by comparing himself to Hitler and his Christian followers to Brown Shirts," and then have a picture of Obama embrassing a Warren turned into Hitler... that's a bit much. That's the Sean Hannity school of interpretation. Read the context of what Warren said in my post, citation provided above.
Warren's intent here in a fair and charitable reading? Hitler and those other assholes were profoundly effective at inspiring people for their causes. He wishes that people could be inspired/effective to a similar degree in the cause of Christianity. A cause he considers to be finer than any other.
I wish people could be as devoted/inspired/driven, as the nazis... for the causes of reason, human rights, peace, justice, humanism, freethought, science education and the further improvement of the human condition for the greatest number of people. Does that "scare the crap" out of anyone? Did I get any nazi on me?

No nazi on you, but you don't share nearly as many beliefs with the nazis as does Warren. Warren is a hardline Christian, anti-science, anti-gay kind of guy, as were the nazis. Some might see this as a warning sign, not that Warren would become a warmongering anti-Semite, but these negatives are already enough to show that he is detrimental to our society. It would be much worse if he were to become a leader on the
scale of Hitler, even if the rest of the beliefs (not listed above) differ.

I agree. And since the actions/beliefs of the nazis are so contrary, even anathema, to "the causes of reason, human rights, peace, justice, humanism, freethought, science education and the further improvement of the human condition for the greatest number of people..." I would know better than to (except in this special instance) use such an example/comparison.
That Warren doesn't know better just shows he ain't too bright. No surprise.

Back to the gay reverend blockade-
Developing: HBO says they aren't to blame for not including Gene Robinson in concert special
"Openly gay bishop Gene Robinson delivered the opening prayer before the start of the concert, but the prayer was not included as part of HBO's broadcast.
Contacted Sunday night by AfterElton.com concerning the exclusion of Robinson's prayer, HBO said via email, "The producer of the concert has said that the Presidential Inaugural Committee made the decision to keep the invocation as part of the pre-show."

Yes and Warren is anti-condom to boot. His anti-gay leave-no-prisoners approach and his anti-condom messages have been scrubbed from
his website.
But still remaining is a huge egotistical message about the change that churches will bring. In America it wasn't churches that brought huge change. They had plenty of those in merry old England.
It was schools. Public education was the catalyst.
Now that his venomous messages about abortion, gay issues and anti-condom have been scrubbed away maybe BHO did do him some good.

And as a bonus, it
certainly pisses the fundies off, and that's a good thing.
