Newbie here. Wave at me or something.

I just wanted to introduce myself.
Hi, I'm Jae.
"Hello Jae."
...and I am an atheist....and I am powerless against the omnipotence of REASON.

I am planning to attend the meeting at the end of January. Not a great deal of detail in the profiles on here, so I suppose I will just have to find out about everyone at the meeting. I look forward to (finally) having some like-minded individuals to socialize with. My work and regrettable lifestyle seems to have kept me pretty isolated for far too long.

I am fairly opinionated. There isn't much anymore that surprises me. Primarily, I know how I feel about nearly everything, and if I don't, I'll say so, and then find out about it. I am in the finishing stages of my current book "Supernatural Hypocrisy: The Cognitive Dissonance of a God Cosmology" and excited about getting this project out there. It's the result of my recent struggle with my beliefs and the conclusions I reached and why. Ironically, it only took reading the Bible again to gain clarity. That's enough to make anyone an atheist. I probably always have been an atheist-in-waiting, but never allowed my knowledge to gel in that way. Now I have, and I'm anxious to share the experience with others. I will be pitching to the usual publishers of this type of material, but the book will be available through me as a review copies, until it hopefully-gets-published-traditionally. I hope to get some feedback from some of you eventually.

I look forward to the meeting at the end of the month.
Best,
Jae

Glad to have you with us, Jae! I think you'll find many of us in the FF to be opinionated too. (Now watch some of them disagree with me!)

Our next meeting is January 31st. See you there!

Hello Jae,

In case no one told you, atheist go to hell. It is warm there, so I hope you have packed your swimming trunks. I have plenty of sun tan lotion so if you need to borrow some just give me a yell. Though we have our disagreements in hell, we generally are quite civil, kind, cooperative, and easily approachable. If there is anything I can do to make your life, or subsequent eternity more enjoyable, please let me know. I am always up for a cup of coffee or a hug.

Nice to meet you!

Hi Jae. Welcome to FFForums.

James, one of our members, had the idea of having a thread where people would tell the story of their deconversion. Without meaning to make you spill all the guts of your upcoming book, I thought I might steer you in that direction so that you could (a) read about others here and (b) share the gist of your own experiences.

Thanks, Kevin. I am aware of that caveat, yes. However, the flaw for me has always been that one can't very well reside in a fictional place--unless you're a novelist, like me...and those places are ones I create, and they most assuredly aren't any more uncomfortable than I wish them to be.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

Uncomfortable?....well if you don't like it warm, I guess we could turn on the air...I mean...since we are making things up. I have no problem with fictional afterlives. I have come to the conclusion that it is best for society as a whole that we not actually "believe" in them however hope is a fine thing. I hope to go to Hogwarts when I die.

Howdy Jae,
My guitar player told me that you left a message for me on our band myspace (Red Ambition) and I wanted to take a moment to say hello and welcome. I shall be at the next meeting since we are not performing that weekend and I look forward to seeing you there. Every last Saturday of the month the Fayetteville Freethinkers meet at the library and then many of us go for dinner. It's always fun and informative.

Welcome Jae,

I don't know how I missed this post but I did. Welcome to the Freethinkers I believe you will find a really good group of people and we always look forward to getting together at the end of each month. My wife Sherry and I drive down from Springfield, MO because if you think Fayettville is conservative you aint seen nothing like Springfield. Springfield is larger than Fayettville and we should have enough people up here to start a group but my work takes me all over the country and I could never be counted on to keep it going.

I read your post under "Why I am a Freethinker" and enjoyed it very much. I admire people that can write well. My wife is a great writter but she does not post very much on the forum. I usually get on the forum when I am on the road because when I am home I have to catch up on my house work. We plan to be at the meeting on the 31st and look forward to meeting you.
