All,

I'm sure that everyone has seen this already but here is the latest this morning.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080728/ap_ ... h_shooting

I woundered if this guy had shot up the church because of their more liberal views and according to a note found in a van that was exactly why he shot up the church that he had apparently never attended. He was apparently un-employed and could not find a job and blamed the "liberal church" for his lack of getting a job. I would be willing to bet that it may have had more to do with lack of job skills and unable to interview well because of anger issues. I believe this is just another example of the misguided right-wing conservative christians blaming someone else for his problems instead of looking in a mirror.

If the guy is upset because he can not find a job he should be looking at his fellow conservative christian friends. What would your guess be, as to the type of person that makes the decission to close a buisness here in the US and move it off shore? Would it be a left wing liberal atheist? Or would it be a right wing conservative christian? Look at Wal-Mart. A couple of years ago on PBS-Frontline they did a report on the trading practices of Wal-Mart and how they negotiated a lot of there contracts. Wal-Mart would negotiate contracts with US companies to a point of the contractor operating at break even or at a loss because Wal-Mart was very willing to go to China or other off shore companies to have products made for less. What would you call the leadership/management of Wal-Mart? Liberal? Conservative? I vote for conservative! Yet this shooter in Tennesse believes it is the liberals fault that he does not have a job! You have got to be kidding me and I believe this is a common belief amoung conservatives. All I can say is the conservative movement in this country is well funded and know how to spin the media.

This just goes along with the Headlines You Will Never See--------- "Atheist Shoots/Blows Up Right Wing Conservative Church!"---------I won't say that it will never happen but I believe the chances are low.

The Rs get (and stay) in power by convincing the poor, unemployed/underemployed, and angry that "it's all the liberals' fault" - and while historicallly speaking, you do get a few left-wing nutcases killing conservatives (the guy who assassinated William McKinley for example), they are very rare - and usually used by the FBI and other law enforcement groups as an excuse to purge all liberal groups. This is why W's "fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over here" was always bullshit - the Rs CREATE them over here as well as over there - and use them for political purposes in both places.

Just look how far back in history you had to go to come up with an example. Without any effort at all I can think of a couple other than this latest guy shooting up the Unitarian Church.

Timothy McVey
Jim Jones
The Family Planning Clinic bomber in Atlanta. (Sorry don't remember the name)

And the list goes on and this did not even break a sweet or have to go look up anything on the internet.

Come to think of it the Unitarian Church shooting has already dropped off the radar!

Exactly - we CAN find examples of LWs assassinating or attempting to assassintate "conservatives" for political reasons, but they are few, far between, and hard to find. You don't have to even think hard to come up with the reverse - RWs killing "liberals" for political reasons. But apparently - considering how fast they drop off the media radar - "it's OK if you're a Republican"

The officially atheistic government of the old Soviet Union murdered millions of conservative believers. Doe that count?

No. I know of no widespread killings that were done on the basis of atheism. Everyone reading this knows of many killings done on the basis of religion.

Let us know when you find an example of a killing done with atheism as its motive. Who has ever killed in the name of atheism?
