I'm not sure if I have any Republican friends, because my disdain for Republicans is so great, but I thought this was good advice for trying to talk sense into them. This article makes the point that discussing the issues that are important to liberals won't get through to them; you have to discuss the issues that they care about. If they haven't been drinking too much of the FOX kool-aid (to borrow their own insult) then perhaps they'll see the light...

Right now, the way to get through to most Rs - the lower and middle class ones who keep voting against their own interests - is to talk jobs, jobs, good-paying American jobs. That's how Hillary got that demographic that everyone screamed and hollared "racism" over her mentioning.
Barbara Fitzpatrick
*sigh* as if Obama never mentioned jobs or good paying American jobs. Geez.
Here's a problem - now the Repubs are using the argument that economy is not actually bad, it's just a big rumor started by democrats to fuel anti-bush sentiment -- and they keep a straight face while they're arguing it! I've heard these rumblings, then stupid Fred Thompson was on the Stephanopoulos show this morning making the argument that unemployment is low (the recent spike isn't that bad, and it's not that bad compared to times in the past), gas prices are high, but HEY they're a lot higher in Europe!, etc. etc. So, obviously you can't even talk reason with these people about anything.

Right. And George Will, on the same show, tried to float the idea that the housing market is actually not so bad since houses are worth a lot more than they were 8 years ago. Robert Reich roasted Will on that.
I don't think their bad-economy-is-a-Democratic-rumour thing is going to work.
