John Hagee: Hitler Doing God's Work

It doesn't speak well for the evolution of human consciousness that so many thousands listen to this deluded man. You can't make this up.
"John Hagee, the controversial evangelical leader and endorser of Sen. John McCain, argued in a late 1990s sermon that the Nazis had operated on God's behalf to chase the Jews from Europe and shepherd them to Palestine. According to the Reverend, Adolph Hitler was a "hunter," sent by God, who was tasked with expediting God's will of having the Jews re-establish a state of Israel."
(Truth is always in the malleable Bible)
"Going in and out of biblical verse, Hagee preached: "'And they the hunters should hunt them,' that will be the Jews. 'From every mountain and from every hill and from out of the holes of the rocks.' If that doesn't describe what Hitler did in the holocaust you can't see that."
(There's always a punishment for not following an inspired leader)
"He goes on: "Theodore Hertzel is the father of Zionism. He was a Jew who at the turn of the 19th century said, this land is our land, God wants us to live there. So he went to the Jews of Europe and said 'I want you to come and join me in the land of Israel.' So few went that Hertzel went into depression. Those who came founded Israel; those who did not went through the hell of the holocaust. "

Hagee is one of my parents favorite televangelists. Which speaks well of neither my parents or Hagee. I have heard Hagee spout hate from the pulpit for a long time. He is a very hateful minister. You can hear it in his tone as he preaches. He spews hate at gay men, gay women, straight women, islam, etc. He stops just short of racism.
BTW, If he's endorsing a candidate, doesn't he lose his tax-exempt status? Is there some loophole at work here?

Yes, it's the time-honored loophole of LookTheOtherWayism.

Well I don't know that simply endorsing a candidate would or should cause a loss of tax exempt status for the persons church. You don't completely lose your rights as a citizen to endorse and speak freely about a candidate. Now if he is campaigning for the guy, especially by giving sermons endorsing the guy then absolutely. He's toast.
I think endorsements rarely amount to a hill of beans anyway. Big wig Pat Robertson endorsed Giuliani right? How'd that work out?

He is imo a lunatic, completely delusional.

No church ever loses it's "rights" nor does a preacher for speaking out in favor of a political candidate. However, U.S. Tax Code does not allow a 501c(3) organization to endorse politicians and continue to be tax exempt.
In other words Hagee's church can endorse any politician they choose but they lose their right to claim their church as a tax exempt organization.
The reasoning for this is valid. If churches continue to receive tax exempt status while endorsing political candidates then guess how political campaigns will be run? Donors give political money to the churches and take a tax deduction for it.

Isn't that the same loophole the the catholic church used with the pedophile priests?

McBush Drops Rev Hagee
McCain Finally Rejects Hagee's Support -- And Makes It All About Obama And Wright
he controversy surrounding John Hagee's endorsement has finally gotten to John McCain. In the wake of new quotes being circulated by the Huffington Post in which Hagee called Hitler an instrument of God's will, McCain has now rejected Hagee's support.
"Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them," McCain told CNN in a statement. "I did not know of them before Reverend Hagee's endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well."
That matter aside, McCain was sure to bring this back to Barack Obama, insisting that his active effort to get Hagee's support originally was not nearly as bad as Obama's associations with Jeremiah Wright.
Late Update: Hagee has now issued a formal withdrawal of his endorsement, but it reads more like he's stepping aside rather than actually dropping his support:
"I am tired of these baseless attacks and fear that they have become a distraction in what should be a national debate about important issues. I have therefore decided to withdraw my endorsement of Senator McCain for President effective today, and to remove myself from any active role in the 2008 campaign," he said in a statement.
"I hope that the Senator McCain will accept this withdrawal so that he may focus on the issues that are most important to America and the world."
