Republicans are known be ruthless and hard-hearted, just the sort of people you want out front directing operations to kill people. So they have had a political edge over Democrats regarding the war on terror. But Bush, depite having killed many people needlessly, has botched the job so badly that the huge trust gap between the parties on the issue of terrorism has now narrowed to a five-point spread.

Republican Lose Terrorism Edge
"We could have done something important Max. We could have fought child abuse or Republicans!" --Oona Hart (played by Victoria Foyt), in the 1995 movie "Last Summer in the Hamptons."
Terrorism & Republicans
Considering how often the Rs confuse our current undeclared-by-Congress war in Iraq with WWII, you'd think they'd be lining up behind the Dems, who did such a good job in the "Great War". The "historic memory of a gnat" (comment by Molly Ivins) combined with an apparent total inability to foresee logical conclusions of their actions is a dangerous combination. (& all the under 2,000 people rounded up in Dec 1941 had counsel to represent them and were tried in civil courts - in less than 1 year.)
