Georgia Congressman

Post by Dardedar »

This was some amazing TV last night.

Image

Rough transcript:

Colbert: You have not introduced a single piece of legislation since you entered Congress.

Westmoreland: That's correct.

Colbert: This has been called a do nothing Congress. Is it safe to say you're the do nothingest?

Westmoreland: I, I, ..Well there's one other do nothiner. I don't know who that is, but they're a Democrat.

Colbert: What can we get rid of to balance the budget?

Westmoreland: The Dept. of Education.

Colbert: What are the Ten Commandments?

Westmoreland: You mean all of them?--Um... (pause) Don't murder. (pause) Don't lie. (pause) Don't steal Um... I can't name them all.

The guy co-sponsors a bill requiring the Ten Commandments to be posted (in schools I think) and doesn't even know more than three of them. Priceless.

I know - nothing but panderers to people who also don't know the Ten Commandments or that there is more than one set, or that different Bibles have different "same" sets. But he'll get re-elected because he supports putting "God back in school" - not that god has ever been out of school. Kids in public school can pray - can say the rosary every day if they want to, as long as they 1) do it silently & 2) have finished their class work. Something that maybe should be pointed out to the fundies, who think BVM is the "scarlet woman" who leads good christian boys straight to hell, that putting "God back in school" could include saying the rosary after lunch in areas that are predominently Roman Catholic (or, of course, bowing to Mecca at the appropriate times while praying to Allah in predominently Muslim areas). But then, they don't really mean putting "God back in school" - they mean fundie control of school (Hitler, among others, knew that whoever gets the kids gets power).
