Chief Justice Roberts' NEWTHINK on voter fraud

Post by LaWood »

The SCOTUS is now hearing the Indiana case of voter ID challenge which is now being termed "facial challenge." Indiana has passed the strictest voter ID requirement in the nation. The law, upheld by a lower court, is being challenged by Demo Party of Ind. and the Am Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU recognizes Indiana's law as partisan attempt to suppress minority and impoverished voters.
It rightly points out that there is no such evidence of ID fraud in Indiana.

Today (Jan 10) the NY Times reports that lack of evidence matters little to Chief Justice Roberts:
The chief justice also seemed unimpressed by the absence of known voter impersonators. “It’s a type of fraud that, because it’s fraud, it’s hard to detect,” he said to Mr. Smith

Reminds one of the Salem Witchcraft Trials and the accused were said to be consorting with the devil. The nature of the devil was that it could not be seen nor detected.
