There is going to be a show on PBS tonight about Amy Joe McPherison (?) on American Experience that could be interesting. She was the first big popular evagelist that got caught with her hands in the cookie jar! She was a for-runner to Jim Baker, Jimmy Swaggert and Ted What's Name.

Ha. We watched "The Eyes of Tammy Faye" last night and it was really interesting. I recommend it:

The only thing Tammy Faye made me want to do is use a butter knife to scrape the makeup off her face and see if there was anything behind it. (After contemplating was it would look like if there wasn't anything behind the makeup, I decided I didn't want to do that after all.)

Bad makeup aside, the film actually showed her to be a very compassionate and authentic person. I found out that she was the first (and only for many years) christian preacher to embrace homosexuals and particularly those with AIDS back when even the secular community was shunning them out of fear. After seeing the film I wanted to have her over for supper. I like it when my assumptions get overturned.

Same here. I'm one of those optimistic pessimists (or pessimistic optimists) who love to find general "niceness" in human beings and their treatment of each other. That's the major thing I have against fundies (and RWs in general) is their attitudes toward other people.
