No, Lincoln never said it. But GOP bloggers and congressman have latched onto it and are determined to keep repeating it.
Now it's part of the official Congressional record. Wednesday, Alaska's Rep. Don Young opened his remarks with the fake quote.
"We could have done something important Max. We could have fought child abuse or Republicans!" --Oona Hart (played by Victoria Foyt), in the 1995 movie "Last Summer in the Hamptons."
Olbermann already nailed the guy who didn't check his sources. Some nutjob made the statement, and somebody else put quotes around it and attributed it to Lincoln.
