Bush's Legacy: Compassion

Post by Doug »

DOUG
Proof that GW has lost ALL contact with reality.

===================
...When the interviewer made a reference to "Goldwater Republicans," and "Rockefeller Republicans," he chuckled -- his word -- and stopped the questioner from finishing his thought.

"I'm just chuckling because I think 'Goldwater Republicans' and 'Rockefeller Republicans' are pretty far past," the president said. "That's rude of me to chuckle, but I would be cautious about stereotyping philosophies."

Okay, his interviewer said mildly, but what he'd really wanted to know was how (George W.) Bush Republicans would be defined, and what images the phrase "Bush Republican" might summon for future generations.

And suddenly, it was 2000 again; Mr. Bush did not mention 9/11 or the global war on terror, Iraq or Afghanistan, Saddam or bin Laden: "Compassionate conservatism" was his legacy, he declared, and referred to the faith-based initiatives we haven't heard much about in subsequent years. "I made a name by being compassionate."

Darrel, I wish your cartoon was correct, but I think the neocons are more like cornered rats - and even more dangerous, since the lead rat can start a nuclear war at any time.

The 3rd one is true, the 1st one is unfortunately possible, and the 2nd one assumes he isn't deliberately trying to destroy America so he can take it over in the chaos of anarchy.

The "Death Throes" cartoon seems to misunderstand what neo-conservatism is, and as a result erroneously throws in unrelated issues. The first two blurbs about militarism are on the mark, but neo-cons couldn't care less about tax policy or global warming. There are several distinct special interest groups at play here, not some single mind or ideology.

Bush deserves all the bashing he gets, but I just hope people realize that it's not an individual causing the problems. It's the institution, stupid! The thing itself! The State.
