Political Quotes of the Day
Okay...I really gotta figure this delete crap out....
If I am going to be posting under the influence...I need to know how to delete my mistakes. Can someone give this poor nartard explicit step by step instructions on how to do so...keep in mind they must be clear as I am not at my peak of mental acuity...

That's not a fair question! I can only defend that position in the light (or rather depressive darkness) of Sarah Palin!Darrel wrote:DARkwlyon wrote:Now now...Bush is actually pretty well spoken.
Can you name a prominent political person who is less well spoken than GW Bush? (other than Palin).

Re: Political Quotes of the Day
"Now in a different world, at a different time, and with a different president, we face the prospect of enlarging a different war. But once again we're fighting in remote provinces against an enemy who can bleed us slowly and wait us out, because he will still be there when we are gone.
Once again, we are caught between warring factions in a country where other foreign powers fail before us. Once again, every setback brings a call for more troops, although no one can say how long they will be there or what it means to win. Once again, the government we are trying to help is hopelessly corrupt and incompetent.
And once again, a President pushing for critical change at home is being pressured to stop dithering, be tough, show he's got the guts, by sending young people seven thousand miles from home to fight and die, while their own country is coming apart.
And once again, the loudest case for enlarging the war is being made by those who will not have to fight it, who will be safely in their beds while the war grinds on (my em). And once again, a small circle of advisers debates the course of action, but one man will make the decision.
We will never know what would have happened if Lyndon Johnson had said no to more war. We know what happened because he said yes."

Re: Political Quotes of the Day
Beck... with handy chalkboard in hand -- told the audience that we have three potential economic outcomes facing the USA: Recession, Depression, or Collapse. In other words, Disaster, Doom, or Total Annihilation. It was, as always, an uplifting scenario. He also described how we normal folks respond at each step. Paying off our debts, building fruit cellars, that sort of thing.
Then he got to the third one:
Beck: "The third one is Collapse. That's 'Get out of debt and save,' plus, 'Have a fruit cellar,' plus -- I like to call the "three G system" here for this -- it's, uh, God, Gold, and Guns.
Now personally, you might take God and put him as an umbrella over the whole thing. And then you got your gun and your gold down here too. But that's your choice."

See here.
A conservative blogger has had enough of the right wing lunacy and declares he's out of their camp right now. He wrote his declaration of independence in three minutes.
=============================
Why I Parted Ways With The Right
1. Support for fascists, both in America (see: Pat Buchanan, Robert Stacy McCain, etc.) and in Europe (see: Vlaams Belang, BNP, SIOE, Pat Buchanan, etc.)
2. Support for bigotry, hatred, and white supremacism (see: Pat Buchanan, Ann Coulter, Robert Stacy McCain, Lew Rockwell, etc.)
...7. Support for conspiracy theories and hate speech (see: Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Birthers, creationists, climate deniers, etc.)
8. A right-wing blogosphere that is almost universally dominated by raging hate speech (see: Hot Air, Free Republic, Ace of Spades, etc.)
9. Anti-Islamic bigotry that goes far beyond simply criticizing radical Islam, into support for fascism, violence, and genocide (see: Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, etc.)
10. Hatred for President Obama that goes far beyond simply criticizing his policies, into racism, hate speech, and bizarre conspiracy theories (see: witch doctor pictures, tea parties, Birthers, Michelle Malkin, Fox News, World Net Daily, Newsmax, and every other right wing source)
And much, much more. The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff.
I won’t be going over the cliff with them.

"The Republicans are all about driving people out right now. And I think it's a great idea. So if you
believe in evolution or gravity or photosynthesis or any of the stuff that Republicans are afraid of,
come on over to the Democratic Party. You know, we're the party right now of the mainstream.
Republicans seem to have ceded the center of the national debate to the Democratic Party...
I think this is great. This is what I want as a Democrat. I couldn't be happier."

Re: Political Quotes of the Day
Senator Harry Reid, talking about healthcare and conservatives, today:
"Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all Republicans have come up with is this slow down, stop everything, let's start over."
"You think you've heard these same excuses before, you're right. When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said, slow down, it's too early. Let's wait. Things aren't bad enough. When women spoke up for the right to speak up, they wanted to vote, some insisted slow down, there will be a better day to do that. The day isn't quite right.
When this body was on the verge of guaranteeing equal civil rights to everyone, regardless of the color of their skin, some senators resorted to the same filibuster threats that we hear today."

Re: Political Quotes of the Day
Michael Steele made a big deal of this quote and demanded that Reid apologize for comparing slavery to the health care debate. (Isn't that strange?) (and yet it's okay to compare the health care reform to Nazi death camps. Hmmm.) Steele was then accused of fake indignation by the Democrats.

Reid carefully and accurately said "there were those." He didn't say "republicans." Conservatives instantly, instinctively knew he was talking about them, because while party affiliation may change, stupid backward and intolerant stays the same.

How a Few Private Health Insurers Are on the Way to Controlling Health Care
Robert Reich
Former Secretary of Labor, Professor at Berkeley
Excerpt:
"A system based on private insurers won't control costs because private insurers barely compete against each other. According to data from the American Medical Association, only a handful of insurers dominate most states. In 9 states, 2 insurance companies control 85 percent or more of the market. In Arkansas, home to Senator Blanche Lincoln, who doesn't dare cross Big Insurance, the Blue Cross plan controls almost 70 percent of the market; most of the rest is United Healthcare. These data, by the way, are from 2005 and 2006. Since then, private insurers have been consolidating like mad across the country...
In light of all this, you'd think the insurance industry would be subject to the antitrust laws, so the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission could prevent it from combining into one or two national behemoths that suck every health dollar out of our pockets (as well as the pockets of companies paying part of the cost of their employees' health insurance). But no. Remarkably, the Senate bill still keeps Big Insurance safe from competition by preserving its privileged exemption from the antitrust laws.
From the start, opponents of the public option have wanted to portray it as big government preying upon the market, and private insurers as the embodiment of the market. But it's just the reverse. Private insurers are exempt from competition. As a result, they are becoming ever more powerful. And it's not just their economic power that's worrying. It's also their political power, as we've learned over the last ten months. Economic and political power is a potent combination. Without some mechanism forcing private insurers to compete, we're going to end up with a national health care system that's controlled by a handful of very large corporations accountable neither to American voters nor to the market."

Hitchens on Palin:
"Don't be too hard on her. She didn't write that piece [on Global warming] and she probably hasn't read it. I doubt she could either read or write it. Everything she does is for effect, she's, and is always deniable. She could switch back in a minute. At the moment she thinks her tea party crowd wants to hear this kind of thing so she'll say that. She's been out to say, 'well, I don't know but I think the President ought to produce his birth certificate. I'm not saying it isn't a good question. Then later, cause she's got to go to the Gridiron dinner in Washington, and learn how to use a knife and fork and be taught by Fred Malek. She takes it back. She's a disgraceful opportunist and a real moral coward."

"...taking a shot at liberals who are not happy with the health care bill or how Harry Reid or the Obama administration have handled it.
Brewer: So in the end, how does this deal get done John?
Harwood: "Contessa it was really hand to hand combat and hand to hand diplomacy one vote at a time, finally securing that vote of Joe Lieberman by ditching that Medicare buy in that he was against and Ben Nelson with the abortion language; but I gotta’ say Contessa, just because so much of the commentary I've heard has been really idiotic. Liberals who want universal health care ought to be thanking Harry Reid for getting this thing done rather than talking about what's inadequate in the bill. I'm not saying the bill's a good bill, but if you're a liberal, and you want universal coverage in this country and think that you could do better than Harry Reid, can do better than what he's done, or the White House can do better, they ought to lay off the hallucinogenic drugs because we have had a vivid demonstration of the limits of political possibilities on this issue."

Re: Political Quotes of the Day
"As for Glenn Beck, the panel discussed the challenge of maintaining a separation between reality and satire when so many TV pundits are simply, premeditatedly over-the-top.
"I said, 'Let's start doing some Glenn Beck stuff but in praise of Glenn Beck,'" said Colbert. "But every time we do one, he will have done something dumber. He raised the stupid bar and now it's nearly inapproachable."
"I worry that if we use that as a model....if somebody doesn't believe what they're saying, it's very hard to out-stupid them," said a decidedly analytical Colbert. "Because then there's no place to sink our hook into, there's no mountain to climb there. I can't climb Glenn Beck since there's nothing there."

Harwood-
the Medicare and Medicaid Act, single payer, government run health insurance plans. LBJ knew how to lead, knew how to get Senators to go along with his Act. BHO and Reid, not so much.
Insurance companies are the winners this time around. Are we to believe that as insurance companies become MORE entrenched as a result of this bill they will be more
easily persuaded to give up power in the future? They will be less powerful in the future?

There are million little ways to frame an issue so that it comes to us pre-spun, and we don't even notice it. For the GOP, it's not about convincing voters to join their rightwing jihad-- it's about quietly moving the perception of the 'center' so far to the right that they achieve their goals in a way that doesn't seem all that radical. Ask the frog about his experience in that boiling pot of water..."

Well isn't it the case that they weren't dealing with a completely insane republican party then? There were a lot of moderate republicans back then. Where are they now?
Read what Bernie has to say about the bill:
http://www.thenation.com/blogs/edcut/50 ... ealth_bill
The republican party of today. Fresh quote:
"...beans, bullets, and band-aids. Stock up. You will need them all soon."
-"If you have not yet prepared yourself with: a weapon; ammunition; food; water; hard currency; something to carry these in; outdoor clothes and boots/shoes . . .then you are a complacent FOOL. Civil strife is coming; probably civil war. If you live in a city, it is coming there first. If you are a member of the military or police, remember your oaths, and gaze upon the rape of our Constitution and our freedoms. You will soon be forced to decide if your oath reflects who and what you are - or was just noise."
-"A violent overthrow of the socialist bastard traitors BEFORE this hellish health care debacle gets enacted is the only way we will ever be able to stop our plunge into socialist-fascist tyranny. I only hope that we have enough patriotic military officers & soldiers who will fight with us & for us. The commie pig 0bozo & the rest of the demoRAT socialists will not go down easily without a bloody violent fight. We have got to destroy the socialist demoRATs so badly that they will never resurrect their ugly commie socialist ideology or faces again!!! American Revolution II needs to happen NOW!!"

Re: Political Quotes of the Day
On Christmas Day, Vic Chesnutt took his own life at the age of 45. Vic carved out a small but not insignificant career as a folk musician, despite being a paraplegic, the result of a single car crash at 18. In recent interviews he contemplated the challenges he faced as a wheelchair-bound paraplegic with inadequate health insurance and mounting medical bills:
"I'm not too eloquent talking about these things," Mr. Chesnutt told the Los Angeles Times this month. "I was making payments, but I can't anymore and I really have no idea what I'm going to do. It seems absurd they can charge this much. When I think about all this, it gets me so furious. I could die tomorrow because of other operations I need that I can't afford."
