As Doug points out, with "statist" borders more people agree on them than on personal borders. At least with governments most of the time the arguments over the boundaries of personal property are done bloodlessly in court rooms rather bloodily over the property itself.

Barbara, be careful about equating legal systems with State. Legal systems in general, statist or free, try to resolve property disputes. The question is which - coercive monopoly or pluralist - does it better and more morally.

If you want to try to justify the State, you'll need to show that having a territorial coercive monopoly legal service is better than polycentric law.
