"Why isn’t he [Obama] being destroyed as Quayle was...?
DAR
They have been trying their best with his hamburger order:

http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/la ... r-about-ob

It just doesn't stick because people can see Professor Obama is obviously smart.

Btw, no one said Quayle's situation was fair or not. Obviously everyone makes spelling errors. Again the humor is that you can't even accept that Dan made a mistake here. The blame must belong to someone else.

You say:
"...no one gave BO a card saying there were 57 states..."
DAR
And if they had, and he went along with the card and gave as an answer that there were 57 states, he should get full blame for the blunder. And it would be extra stupid if he corrected a 12 year old who had just answered the question correctly in a contest. You wouldn't shift the blame on the person who wrote the card (but you do for Quayle).

But he didn't answer a question about how many states there are. You leave out important context. If you watch the video, he is talking about how many states he has campaigned in. He obviously meant to say 47 (the correct answer) but instead says 57. Does this mean he thinks their are 57 states? No, that's ridiculous. It means he misstated a number. There is a difference and honest people know this.

Now the Austrian thing, you got him there. He didn't know, or momentarily forgot, what language is spoken in Austria. This one is not going to do much service for you. Most Americans, (10% of whom can't find the US on an unmarked globe), don't know. I didn't know, and I'm a pretty smart cookie.

Best to stay with the mustard ridicule.

Quayle said a lot of really dumb things. Bush said ten times as many dumb things. I had a calendar with Bush saying something stupid every single day of the year. Do you think they will be bringing out such a calendar for Obama?

I don't think so.

You Have to Laugh
BOB: "I was visiting the People's Republic of Madison (WI) this weekend. Sunday I parked next to an SUV with a homemade, anti-Bush bumper sticker, which played off the pun between "end of an era" and "end of an error."

It read: "1-20-09. The End of an Eror." (Sic).

Really."
DAR
Turns out Bob, the yokes on you. They spelled it that way on purpose:

For example:

http://cgi.ebay.com.my/1-20-09-End-of-a ... 0137444584

It's great when conservatives don't even understand straightforward political humor. See Stephen Colbert.

And for a nice collection of dimwits who actually can't spell words on their political signs see these teabaggers from your team:

Obama was the president of the Harvard Law Review, and he taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School. No one can plausibly say that he is not smart.

On the other hand, can anyone imagine GW Bush teaching a college class on ANYTHING?

There's a difference between not knowing how to spell "potato" and misstating how many states there are. No one really thinks that Obama thought there were 57 states. Obviously he misspoke. On the other hand, Quayle DID think that "potato" was spelled with an "e" on the end.

Mistakes such as "I campaigned in 57 states" are funny because they are a flub. It only shows that he was tired. It doesn't reflect on his intelligence. But Quayle's numerous errors, and Bush's numerous errors, show that they are NOT SMART.

Radicals come home to roost
JARHEAD
Another Bill Ayers type comes to Illinois. Maybe he'll return to being a professor, highly respected on the white wine and brie circuit. No party is complete here without someone like this.
Here in Blagobamaland, we welcome everyone, as long as they loath America, especially if they were involved in bombings. Murder is a plus, of course. But, hey, he did six years in the Big House. We shouldn't make too big a deal out of it, though at last report, the victim was still dead.
Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security is keeping a close eye on veterans like me.
DAR
It's telling that you have to back almost 35 years to find these long lost bank robber radicals nobody cares about today.

But you don't mention the real homegrown radical terrorist threat.

There are about 900 hate groups in America and almost without exception, they are very conservative and usually Christian:

See:

http://www.splcenter.org/intel/map/hate.jsp

How many do you have in your state? We have 20 in my state. Nineteen are right-wing and Christian.

What are the odds?

You have 23 in Illinois. All but two are rightwing, conservative hate groups.

Good. It's important they keep an eye on the kooks.

Gitmo Solution
JARHEAD
Here’s the solution to closing Gitmo—or not.

Present a bill to the Congress. If they vote yes, and Gitmo closes, one or more of the terrorists will be placed in a halfway house at government expense, within five miles of the home of every Senator and Congressmen who votes “yes.” If they vote the bill down, Gitmo stays open, we continue locking up the murdering bastards there and move on.

The claim: "The United States constitution applies to US Citizens, not to enemy combantants attacking the United States." --Bob

The Reality: "Boumediene v. Bush

On June 12, 2008, the United States Supreme Court ruled, in Boumediene v. Bush, that the Military Commissions Act could not remove the right for Guantanamo captives to access the US Federal Court system. And all previous Guantanamo captives' habeas petitions were eligible to be re-instated. The judges considering the captives' habeas petitions would be considering whether the evidence used to compile the allegations the men and boys were enemy combatants justified a classification of "enemy combatant."

Of course we know that they are all "murdering bastards" without even conducting trials. "Innocent until proven guilty" is something that he doesn't think is worth keeping. I guess when he was in the Marines fighting for our rights, that wasn't one of them he was fighting for. That's called GOP patriotism: destroy the U.S.A. in order to save it.

JARHEAD thread
THE DEATH OF AMERICAN HEALTH CARE

Dick Morris? The guy who likes to suck the toes of hookers? This is who we should look to for political advice? The fellow who said Bush's "approval ratings were going to soar" after he gave his little post Katrina speech in New Orleans? (they plummeted and stayed there).

This article is full of lies. This is easy to show. But you (Bob) probably don't have the balls to allow a post rebutting the factual errors. You love your ideology, no matter how false and unfounded, more than truth. What a pathetic position to be in.

I'll roast it and post it later.

You know, there was a day when it wasn't easy to wipe the floor with conservatives. There was a day when they had an intellectual foundation that could be defended. I defended it (when it was right). Those days unfortunately, are over. Now we have ass clowns making farting noises with their arm pits.

-------------------
"My theme is the intellectual decline of conservatism, and it is notable that the policies of the new conservatism are powered largely by emotion and religion and have for the most part weak intellectual groundings. That the policies are weak in conception, have largely failed in execution, and are political flops is therefore unsurprising. The major blows to conservatism, culminating in the election and programs of Obama, have been fourfold: the failure of military force to achieve U.S. foreign policy objectives; the inanity of trying to substitute will for intellect, as in the denial of global warming, the use of religious criteria in the selection of public officials, the neglect of management and expertise in government; a continued preoccupation with abortion; and fiscal incontinence in the form of massive budget deficits, the Medicare drug plan, excessive foreign borrowing, and asset-price inflation.

By the fall of 2008, the face of the Republican Party had become Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber. Conservative intellectuals had no party."
