New "View" Co-Host Disbelieves Evolution
After declaring she didn't "believe in evolution, period," new "View" co-host Sherri Shepherd was asked by Whoopi Goldberg if she thought the world was flat.
Shepherd said she had never thought about it and was stuck for an answer.

From a truly impoverished point of view, it really doesn't matter if the world is flat or evolution is the process by which we all got here. The woman said what she thinks about is feeding her son. If that's just "what am I fixing for dinner tonight" then she has no excuse. If it's "where and how am I going to find food", she has her priorities straight according to Maslow's hierarchy.

The Wiki bit on her:
"Sherri Evonne Shepherd (born on April 22, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American talk show host, comedian and actress. On September 10, 2007, Shepherd was announced as the fifth panelist of ABC's The View. Shepherd is also known for her roles on the TV shows Less Than Perfect [78 episodes] and Everybody Loves Raymond [9 episodes], as well as her extensive work in television commercials."
These days top billing in a hit sitcom can pay $300-$500 thousand per episode. She has to be worth millions.
Where the dumbness was nurtured:
"Raised a Jehovah's Witness,..."
Where the dumbness attained full fruition:
"Shepherd later became a born-again Christian after moving to Los Angeles."
Her filmography is extensive.

Her ignorance of the shape of the earth is indefensible and inexcusable. The mental rot in this nation truly goes all the way to the top.

Maybe if she wasn't so stupid she would not have had such a problem feeding her son.
And of course she must have had kids in grade school, since we learn the shape of the Earth at that age (in the LOWER grades), so she must be extraordinarily fertile.

This specific woman has plenty of money and no excuse for her ignorance. But then, fundies are taught to totally disregard anything they hear in school. She's just being a good xtian. (I, however, who know perfectly well that the earth is not flat - mostly round but slightly lopsided which accounts for its not exactly 24-hour day - have lived through times when my main thought was finding food for my kids and keeping a roof over their heads and it was totally immaterial to me whether the earth was flat, round, or shaped like a burrito.)

Depending upon how one defines "day" (there are several definitions), the fact that the earth is not a perfect sphere has relatively little (no?) effect on the length of "days." Rather, the tilt of the axis and the eccentricity of Earth's orbit have significant effects on "day" length. There's also tidal braking that slows the rotation, but that's another lesson.Barbara Fitzpatrick wrote:I, however, who know perfectly well that the earth is not flat - mostly round but slightly lopsided which accounts for its not exactly 24-hour day

See a longer clip of it here.
Seven minutes if you can stand Whoopi's rambling set-up. At the end they ask her (since she doesn't know the shape of the earth) what she would say if one of her kids asked. She said: "well, we'll be heading off to the library."
To find the answer to the question of whether the earth is flat. This is a person that in America gets a prime time forum reaching millions so they give their view.
