Saudi King Denounces US Occupation of Iraq

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, March 28 — King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia told Arab leaders on Wednesday that the American occupation of Iraq was illegal and warned that unless Arab governments settled their differences, foreign powers like the United States would continue to dictate the region’s politics.

The king’s speech, at the opening of the Arab League meeting here, underscored growing differences between Saudi Arabia and the Bush administration as the Saudis take on a greater leadership role in the Middle East, partly at American urging.

The Saudis seem to be emphasizing that they will not be beholden to the policies of their longtime ally.

The Bushes have been almost like family to the House of Saud for generations, but when push comes to shove, almost isn't good enough to stand by and watch attacks on Arab nations for the enrichment of Halliburton.

Bush ex-strategist says loses faith in president

By Randall Mikkelsen Sun Apr 1,

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - "The chief strategist of George W. Bush's 2004 re-election campaign said he had lost faith in the U.S. president over
Iraq and other issues, in a high-level rupture of Bush's famously loyal inner circle.

snip...

Although some other administration officials have expressed similar views over the years, the Times said Dowd is the first member of Bush's inner circle to break so publicly with him."

DAR
And why? Amazing how enlightening a personal investment can be. The article continues:

"The Times said Dowd acknowledged that the expected deployment to Iraq of his oldest son, Daniel, an Army intelligence specialist, was a factor in his changed view of Bush."

So he's willing to send other sons and daughters to their deaths, but when it comes to his own possible sacrifice, he balks.

Typical hypocritical Republican.
