Bush May Toss Out Iraqi Government

What better way to spread democracy than to toss out a duly elected government on its ear?

=From the Chris Matthews Show (emphasis added)===
Matthews: David, do you believe the President is looking for an out from his doctrinaire policy of staying the course?

David Brooks: Not really, no I don't. I think they're looking at policy options. One of those options is trying to replace the current government which seems to be doing nothing. The second option is some sort of federation which–Joe Biden has suggested as separating Iraq. A third option and by far the least likely is going in with more troops, So there's all different three options…We have much less control over Iraq than we did two or three years ago…

There have been rumours about a coup in Iraq. Perhaps our government is going to sponsor it.

America has an unfortunate habit of assisting in the overthrow of governments that don't kiss American corporate ass, and then being upset with the result - and having to just do it all over again. The earliest one in my memory (NOT in our history) is the overthrow of Batista in Cuba - we helped Castro in when I was a little kid, and have been trying to get rid of him ever since. That we'd help overthrow a government we basically installed in Iraq that has called for us to leave is nothing new. I like the idea of America tossing out a government, but it isn't the Iraqi one.
