Here's a trailer for a movie called "Iraq for Sale" that moveon.org is asking local citizens to host in their communities. It looks like something the Fayetteville Freethinkers ought to host...
Iraq for Sale exposes how big corporations like Halliburton are defrauding the government, wasting billions of our tax dollars, and underserving our troops—and how their Republican cronies in Washington are making it all happen. And the story is all told through shocking, first-hand testimonies from the workers, contractors, and soldiers who saw it happen.

American Blackout is another film that FFT, might want to consider. I haven't seen it, but the trailer looks interesting.
http://www.americanblackout.com/
Whatever you think you know about our election systems or Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, this film will make you question further why the news media fails to accurately inform the public. Directed by GNN's Ian Inaba, creator of Eminem's "Mosh" music video, American Blackout critically examines the contemporary tactics used to control our democratic process and silence voices of political dissent.
Many have heard of the alleged voting irregularities that occurred during the presidential elections of 2000 and 2004. Until now, these incidents have gone under- reported and are commonly written-off as insignificant rumors or unintentional mishaps resulting from an overburdened election system.
American Blackout chronicles the recurring patterns of voter disenfranchisement from Florida 2000 to Ohio 2004 while following the story of Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. Mckinney not only took an active role investigating these election debacles, but has found herself in the middle of her own after publicly questioning the Bush Administration about the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Featuring: Congressional members John Conyers, John Lewis, Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, Bernie Sanders and jounalists Greg Palast and Bob Fitrakis.

Looks like the "Iraq for Sale" movie is getting pretty good coverage locally. Another movie that is looking good is "The Ground Truth." It has 85% tomatoes on Rotten Tomatoes, which is quite good. TIME gave it a very good review. I think I'll order a copy and check it out. Here is a synopsis from Amazon:
***
Plot Synopsis: The Ground Truth stunned filmgoers at the 2006 Sundance and Nantucket Film Festivals. Hailed as "powerful" and "quietly unflinching," Patricia Foulkrod's searing documentary feature includes exclusive footage that will stir audiences. The filmmaker's subjects are patriotic young Americans - ordinary men and women who heeded the call for military service in Iraq - as they experience recruitment and training, combat, homecoming, and the struggle to reintegrate with families and communities. The terrible conflict in Iraq, depicted with ferocious honesty in the film, is a prelude for the even more challenging battles fought by the soldiers returning home - with personal demons, an uncomprehending public, and an indifferent government. As these battles take shape, each soldier becomes a new kind of hero, bearing witness and giving support to other veterans, and learning to fearlessly wield the most powerful weapon of all - the truth.

I do have a projector and I am all for showing timely movies on it. All I need is a wall. The freethinkers did start out as a pretty much (attempted) politically neutral group but we have strayed from that due to the current administration's overt distain for, and suppression of, science and promotion of religion. My opinion: OMNI has the hardcore lefty position covered well and it would be good to not have rightwing freethinkers (there are a few) feel so hounded and beat up that they can't hang out with us. So it is a bit of a balance. We could always just reserve a room at the library and have a viewing, or just have it at my place.
We have parties, but where is Betsy? Time for another party. We have one in the works.

Wow, 100% rating at rottentomatoes. That's not easy to get.

The War on Terrorism: Separating Fact from Fiction
Historians Against the War, the Omni Center for Peace, Justice, and Ecology, and the Honors Program at NorthWest Arkansas Community College are sponsoring a program about the War on Terrorism on October 17-19, 2006. The focus of the event will be "Separating Fact from Fiction" regarding three issues related to the war: Civil Liberties, Human Rights, and War Profiteering.
Interested parties will have an opportunity to view informative films on these subjects at the Shewmaker Center on campus each evening at 6:30 p.m. The series includes a film on each of the themes: Civil Liberties (October 17), Human Rights (October 1 8 ), and War Profiteering (October 19).
The three-day event will culminate with a screening of director Robert Greenwald's new movie "Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers." The 75 minute film begins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 19th, and will be followed by a brief discussion. Admission is FREE to the public.
As part of the program, representatives of the three sponsoring organizations will be on campus between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. each day to discuss the issues and to answer questions. This is an important feature of the program that promises to result in healthy debate about the issues.
Students, faculty, staff, and members of the community are invited to drop by Room 1469 in the west wing of Burns Hall to pick up literature about America and its latest policies, watch informative videos, enjoy some FREE food, relax in a comfortable setting, and openly discuss the role America is playing in the world today.
Those who attend "Iraq for Sale" will get the facts about who is truly profiting from the ongoing war in the Middle East. The film reveals how private corporations have been awarded contracts for the reconstruction of Iraq and are allowed by America's top decision-makers to accumulate billions of dollars in profits at the expense of American taxpayers.
It also examines the lives of ordinary people -- soldiers, truck drivers, widows, and children – and how the profiteering has changed their lives forever. This is an exceptional film that pulls no punches and will give everyone who sees it a better understanding of the challenges that informed citizens face in attempting to steer this nation’s ship in the right direction.
To accept the invitation to the screening of “Iraq for Profit” RSVP at http://iraqforsale.bravenewtheaters.com ... entonville and include the number of friends, neighbors, and family members who will attend with you. For more information or to RSVP by phone, contact Edrene McKay (479-855-6836) or Tate Marble (479-387-4201).

I'm thinking about going to the Iraq for Sale showing at the OMNI Center - but it's on a Sunday night, which would interfere with my last-minute-homework-whilst-watching-Desperate-Housewives time. I know, I know, tough call.
Front flip, Sav. And the hot tub better be the big kind. (are you ready Doug?)
