Greg Kolodziejzyk set the new 24 hour Human Powered Vehicle 24 hours record of 1046.94 km. That's an average of 27 miles an hour or 43.6 kph to cover a distance of 649.1 miles.

"The machine is equipped with food, water, music and waste bags. Kolodziejzyk attempted the record last Thanksgiving, but a combination of poor health, weather and mechanical failure caused him to quit at 22 hours. Due to training, mechanical preparation and the choice of track, the Critical Power team was more confident this time around."

His machine was "Critical Power," a carbon fiber velomobile you can see here.

Essential equipment.
DOUGThe cockpit of Critical Power is very crowded! I communicate to my support crew via a ChatterBox motorcycle two-way radio system. I can make or receive cell phone calls through the radio, as well as listen to music. Behind the seat are two 3 liter water bags with feeding tubes that are mounted directly in front of my mouth. One holds enough water for about 3 hours, the other holds 3 hours worth of food in the form of Boost - a meal replacement drink.
From what I understand, breaks are permitted, to change clothes (when weather changes the temperature enough), and do whatever else, but the clock keeps running during breaks.
