1. Right-Wing Harassment Strategy Against Dems Detailed In Memo: ‘Yell,’ ‘Stand Up And Shout Out,’ ‘Rattle Him’
This morning, Politico reported that Democratic members of Congress are increasingly being harassed by “angry, sign-carrying mobs and disruptive behavior” at local town halls. For example, in one incident, right-wing protesters surrounded Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY) and forced police officers to have to escort him to his car for safety.
This growing phenomenon is often marked by violence and absurdity. Recently, right-wing demonstrators hung Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD) in effigy outside of his office. Missing from the reporting of these stories is the fact that much of these protests are coordinated by public relations firms and lobbyists who have a stake in opposing President Obama’s reforms.
The lobbyist-run groups Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks, which orchestrated the anti-Obama tea parties earlier this year, are now pursuing an aggressive strategy to create an image of mass public opposition to health care and clean energy reform. A leaked memo (read it here) from Bob MacGuffie, a volunteer with the FreedomWorks website Tea Party Patriots, details how members should be infiltrating town halls and harassing Democratic members of Congress:

2.The NRCC's 70 targets
Last week, National Republican Congressional Committee chairman Pete Sessions declared that Republicans planned to put about 80 Democratic-held House seats in play this election year.
Now, he’s coming out with his complete list of targets. The NRCC sent out an e-mail to supportive political action committees with the list of 70 seats it hopes to pick up next year.
Politico has the story. ( Hey? Don't they need some guns and ammo to hit a target? Hard to win if you have nothing to work with.)
How is it possible that both sides of argument don't get out? Wonder no longer: Olberman Silenced
3.The scope -- and dangers -- of GE's control of NBC and MSNBC
"I want to return to the subject of GE's silencing of Keith Olbermannboth because there are new facts I've obtained that shed light on what happened here and because this is one of the most blatant examples yet of pernicious corporate control over America's journalism. The most striking aspect of this episode is that GE isn't even bothering any longer to deny the fact that they exert control over MSNBC's journalism. They've brazenly dispensed with the long-held fiction of the sanctity of journalistic independence from interference by the corporate parents that own America's largest news organizations.
Instead, GE is now openly and proudly boasting of their editorial control over the news organizations they own, and publicly rubbing it in the faces of NBC News journalists that they're subservient to GE's corporate agenda. Look at this smug, creepy quote from GE executive spokesman Gary Sheffer explaining in The New York Times why GE issued its gag order preventing Olbermann from criticizing Fox and O'Reilly, all but mocking NBC and MSNBC journalists as nothing more than GE's office of corporate spokespeople:
"We all recognize that a certain level of civility needed to be introduced into the public discussion," Gary Sheffer, a spokesman for G.E., said this week. "We’re happy that has happened."

In Conway, AR two Congressmen try to explain the health care-insurance reform bill. Note when they assert facts some of the teabaggers assert O'Really! talking points which have been repeated over and over.
Gerard Matthews captures the madness on Ark Times. Watch it here.
Later, Olberman used much of Gerard's footage on his show.
Don't get too close to your screen, you know, when you break out in disbelief-laughter at some of the comments.

Anti-Health Care Reform Protester Encourages Physical Violence, Use Of Firearms
By Brian Beutler - August 7, 2009, 2:20PM
Based on the news that health care events are edging into violence, an anti-health care reform protester in New Mexico named Scott Oskay is calling on his hundreds of online followers to bring firearms to town halls, and to 'badly hurt' SEIU and ACORN counter protesters.
.........
.....................................It gets heavier..............................
....
Popularized in part by conservative blogger Michelle Malkin, the hashtag symbol he's using, #iamthemob, has gone viral on twitter, appearing several times a minute according to a recent search.
Anti-reform activists have scheduled a protest outside SEIU Missouri offices tomorrow, and officials there are taking these threats seriously.
Late update: Looks like they're also getting death threats by phone

WOW- you lefties have never seen real live taxpayers get annoyed with the government.
Obama make a big mistake when he and the media ridiculed the tea parties. They were real and the soon to be majority of voters are fed up with Obama's brand of socialism.
You idiots can't even run the "cash for clunkers" program- what ignorant and foolish people have taken over our government.
It is a shame that the Democrat Party is now the party of a few freaks that never pay income taxes.
This is getting good. Our 2 democrat Senators are scared to face voters and they are have telephone town meetings! Hah!!

DOUGJohn Galt wrote: WOW- you lefties have never seen real live taxpayers get annoyed with the government.
Sure. In the tea parties, they were mad about their taxes, and they were so stupid that they didn't know that Obama had just given them a tax cut. The majority of the tea party people, then and now, don't even know what they are protesting. They just know that they hate Obama. This leads me to suspect that most of their hatred is race-based, since they cannot, or will not, express a coherent reason for what they are doing.
DOUGJohn Galt wrote: Obama make a big mistake when he and the media ridiculed the tea parties. They were real and the soon to be majority of voters are fed up with Obama's brand of socialism.
A. Obama is not a socialist. As Bill Maher likes to point out in this regard, he is not even a liberal, let alone a socialist.
B. The tea parties were, and are, astroturf nonsense that is accomplishing nothing except making the GOP look even more lunatic than it does now. It is hurting your own party. If you want to do that even more, hold a tea party at your home, Galt. That would be great. It pushes your party further out on the fringe and out of touch with what the majority thinks about Obama. Get on TV and tell people that Obama was born in Kenya! Do it!
"Birther" talk, tea parties, "death panel" nonsense will not only keep your party from being a majority, but it will shrink it. Keep it up, Galt!
DOUGJohn Galt wrote: You idiots can't even run the "cash for clunkers" program- what ignorant and foolish people have taken over our government.
It's working marvelously. It's being hailed as a great government program. It needs money when the sources are depleted, and they give it money. No problem.
Senator TOM COBURN (Republican, Oklahoma) admits that the Cash for Clunkers program works.
Nonsense. Even IF some White House cabinet members did not pay all their taxes, that does not make it THEIR party, and they are not the majority of the Democratic party. Did you know, Galt, that we have three branches of government..?John Galt wrote:It is a shame that the Democrat Party is now the party of a few freaks that never pay income taxes.
Gee, and aren't the tea party nuts bitching about paying taxes? And now people who (allegedly, falsely) don't pay taxes are BAD in your eyes? Make up your mind. These should be your heroes if you really believe that.
DOUGJohn Galt wrote:This is getting good. Our 2 democrat Senators are scared to face voters and they are have telephone town meetings! Hah!!
I don't blame them for not wanting to face GOP wingnuts, who threaten violence. Your party has become a party of lunatics who shout, don't listen, and threaten to kill members of the government. And you're proud of it!

Doug,
As much as I respect you for what you are trying to do here...there is such a thing as a lost cause. I really do not think that John here understands anything you have just written. Even if he is indeed capable of understanding you will find his fingers in his ears (ironic as it is the written word he is trying to ignore) humming the tune to amazing grace. So, despite the fact that I believe you have made your point and grounded it exceedingly well where galt has...well, failed to make a cohesive point, I feel I must take up john's side of the argument so that he feels he has an advocate here. Thus I leave you with these words to consider:
1) Your mom's face
2) Suck it Trebeck
3) Obama is a terrorist
4) That is what she said
I will put forth actual effort into a discussion that is worthy of my intellect. I assure you it will not be a discussion started by John Galt:)

PALIN's "DEATH PANELS" EXPOSED. ....NOT INTENDED TO INFORM IDIOTS LIKE GALT who uses the name of a famous atheist.
Last week former Republican vice presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin posted a statement to her Facebook page in which she warned that President Obama's health care reform plan would result in a so-called "death panel" with the power to kill elderly people and those with disabilities:
. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome
will have to stand in front of Obama's "death panel"
so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their "level of productivity in society,"
whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.
Now it seems we have the author of "death panels" -
"U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) also recently accused the Democrats' health care reform plan of putting seniors "to death."
But there is nothing resembling the alleged "death panel" in the health care reform plan. A spokesperson for Palin told ABC News that the former governor was referring to a section promoting advance care planning that appears on page 425 of the House Democrats' bill [pdf]. Advance care planning includes living wills and durable powers of attorney that allow individuals to make clear their wishes for end-of-life care, whatever they may be.
And as it turns out, the cause of advance planning has been championed especially strongly by a pro-life Republican -- U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson of Georgia.
Isakson (photo above) is a member of Senate Health committee that played a key role in shaping the health care reform legislation. He successfully offered an amendment in committee that allows funds for a government-funded program that provides in-home services to people with disabilities to be used for advance care planning, according to the national Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.

See:
Town hall disruptions around the country have led to some outbreaks of violence. Unions participating in town halls have received death threats. At an event held by Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) last week, the threat of violence led her aides to call the police after one attendee dropped a gun.
"Yelling and screaming is counterproductive," she told the Sierra Vista Herald at a Congress on Your Corner event last week. There, one visitor dropped a gun at the meet n' greet held in a Douglas Safeway, her staff says.

I guess Galt would say Boozeman is scared too.

A man carried a handgun strapped to his leg to a town hall meeting being held by President Obama in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Tuesday.
It's legal for him to have the gun as long as it is unconcealed, the police told MSNBC. The man was on private property -- church ground on the roadway leading to the high school where Obama would speak. The church gave the man permission to be there. However, according to police officers, he is under constant surveillance and is not anywhere near where the president will speak.
Talking Points Memo points out that the man was carrying a sign referencing this Jefferson quote: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

"For ‘Death Panels’ Before She Was Against Them? Palin Endorsed End Of Life Counseling As Governor"
In recent weeks, right-wing groups have been pushing the myth that health care reform will somehow kill seniors. One of the most high profile voices pushing this lie has been Sarah Palin, who claimed President Obama will institute bureaucratic “death panels.” Today, again on her Facebook page, she continued the attack. Though some Republicans have rebuffed this absurd, inaccurate notion — like Johnny Isakson (R-GA), who called such talk “nuts” — others, like Newt Gingrich, have piled on to agree with Palin.
However, on April 16th 2008, then Gov. Sarah Palin endorsed some of the same end of life counseling she now decries as a form of euthanasia. In a proclamation announcing “Healthcare Decisions Day,” Palin urged public facilities to provide better information about advance directives, and made it clear that it is critical for seniors to be informed of such options:
WHEREAS, Healthcare Decisions Day is designed to raise public awareness of the need to plan ahead for healthcare decisions, related to end of life care and medical decision-making whenever patients are unable to speak for themselves and to encourage the specific use of advance directives to communicate these important healthcare decisions. [...]
WHEREAS, one of the principal goals of Healthcare Decisions Day is to encourage hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, continuing care retirement communities, and hospices to participate in a statewide effort to provide clear and consistent information to the public about advance directives, as well as to encourage medical professionals and lawyers to volunteer their time and efforts to improve public knowledge and increase the number of Alaska’s citizens with advance directives.
WHEREAS, the Foundation for End of Life Care in Juneau, Alaska, and other organizations throughout the United States have endorsed this event and are committed to educating the public about the importance of discussing healthcare choices and executing advance directives.

Re: RightWings Gone Wild!
A man was spotted Monday afternoon carrying a semi-automatic assault rifle and a pistol at a pro-health care reform rally next to the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Arizona where President Obama was speaking.
The local paper The Arizona Republic reported:
A man, who decided not to give his name, was walking around the pro-health care reform rally at 3rd and Washington streets, with a pistol on his hip, and an AR-15 (a semi-automatic assault rifle) on a strap over his shoulder.
"Because I can do it," he said when asked why he was armed. "In Arizona, I still have some freedoms."
Two police officers were staying very close to the man.
This is the third report in a week of someone bringing a gun to an event where the President was speaking.
See here.
UPDATE: The Associated Press is now reporting that there were actually about a dozen armed people among the protesters in Phoenix. [See same link.]

Right-Wing Militias Are Resurging -- Will They Produce More Terrorists Like Timothy McVeigh?

We need to beware of the right-wing militia movement in America. It poses a danger to our democracy. And shamefully, it is fueled by a few mainstream politicians and media personalities.
After a decade out of the spotlight, the militant rightwing “Patriot” movement — which was responsible for such murderous terrorist acts as the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that claimed 168 lives and injured 500 — is on the rise.
And according to a new report from the Southern Poverty Law Center, this violent coalition of groups is united in their hatred of the government, and of the first black president.
The newly minted report, “The Second Wave: Return of the Militias,” warns that authorities are worried about the acceleration in violent acts by radical right groups.
“Militiamen, white supremacists, anti-Semites, nativists, tax protesters and a range of other activists of the radical right are cross-pollinating and may even be coalescing,” says the report. “This is the most significant growth we’ve seen in 10 to 12 years,” according to one source in the report. “All it’s lacking is a spark. I think it’s only a matter of time before you see threats and violence.”
As many as 50 new militia training groups have formed in two years. Shockingly, one of the groups, the Oath Keepers, consists of current and ex-soldiers and police officers. Its members are concerned about a coming dictatorship, concentration camps and a “New World Order.” And they regard President Obama as “an enemy of the state.”
Meanwhile, sales of guns and ammunition have increased over fears of gun control laws.
The Southern Poverty Law Center notes that in recent months, men with pro-militia, racist, anti-government or anti-Semitic sentiments have committed acts of murder — including the murder of six police officers since April. And a majority of the killers and conspirators were at least partially motivated by the election of Obama.
It’s astonishing that mainstream politicians and media outlets have stoked the fires of militia extremism. This is both irresponsible and dangerous, and will only lead to acts of violence. They have legitimized the hateful and racist propaganda of the Patriot groups, including the outrageous claim that the president is not a U.S. citizen, and that he presides over a fascist-socialist government.

Teddy [Kennedy] Dying Quotes
"This country is now much better off, one less socialist, anti freedom senator."
"Now if we could just talk God into taking Spector, Reid and Pelosi, America would be Eutopia!"
"good riddens"
"I hope God makes him babysit all the aborted children for eternity."
"Ted Kennedy dying has made my day...."
"Good ridencance to a sorry person."
"It's about time, we can only hope Pelosi and Ried will be joining him very soon.
All 3 of them should be buried in Moscow."
--- comments on Sarah Palin's facebook page"
If someone has a Facebook account would you verify that the above comments are true. I trust the fellow who sent them to me
but I don't want a facebook page (yet) and cannot verify the comments.
Thanks
