With so many needless and stifling rules, it's a wonder that anyone could ever graduate from there.
DOUG
When news of this interracial dating ban came out a few years ago, BJU changed the policy so that interracial dating was allowed as long as the students have parental permission.
And people wonder why the GOP is considered racist? The GOP candidates often start their campaigns (ever since Reagan) at BJU, using code words like "states rights" and such.
Shameful.
"We could have done something important Max. We could have fought child abuse or Republicans!" --Oona Hart (played by Victoria Foyt), in the 1995 movie "Last Summer in the Hamptons."
It is the business of Bob Jones University to know where its students go and with whom they associate.
In my opinion, it's nobody's business what a student does in his/her off-campus time. These are young adults. They don't even try to hide the strict control. Frankly, I wouldn't want the job of micromanaging the lives of thousands of students.
Different school, same sort of rules and expectations. My brother was expelled from Pensacola Christian for having a PG-13 rated movie in his room. He said that he knew a couple of kids that got expelled because they violated the off-campus rules for men/female socializing . . . 100 miles away. A professor happened to see them and they all got canned. I don't know HOW anyone graduates from schools like these. How do they manage perfection for 4 years? The rules and expectations are simply ridiculous.
He's an atheist now, so I guess there is a good side to everything.
PCC is actually unaccredited. Bob Jones was unaccredited until 2005.
These poor kids work so hard to live by these horrible zero tolerence rules to graduate, then find out that prospective employers may not even accept that degree as being valid. Also, if they get expelled, the credits they earned will not even transfer to most other colleges. The poor student would have to start all over again if he/she wanted to go to another school. Not worth the freaking trouble, I'd say.

Interesting! I did not know that. Bet my parents didn't either when they sent my brother off to PCC. (They let him graduate a year early as long as he went there. To prove a point: that they weren't as strict as some people. Oh, yes, we had lots of fun in my house growing up, hehe.)
Lucky buggers. My parents belonged to a religion (Jehovah's Witnesses) that strongly condemned even allowing your kids to attend college, accredited or not. Talk about intellectual cowardice. They softened that policy in the early 90's. I graduated high school in 1984.
