You would not believe what Huckabee was saying on Fox News this morning. I do not make it a habit to watch Fox News but it was on the TV in the breakfast room in my motel this morning-(date line Houston, TX).
Fox News was reporting that all 155 passangers on the US Airways flight that crashed in the Hudson River last Thursday all "turned to a higher power" when it was apparent that their airplane was about to crash. So Huckabee had to put his two cents worth of insight to this "Miriacle". Well I happen to know for a fact that there where at least 3 people on that plane that where not praying. First the pilot, second the co-pilot and third the infant that was on board. I doubt that the infant knows or cares about prayer and I will absolutely guarantee you that if the pilot and co-pilot had been in the cocpit praying instead of flying the plane the head lines would read "Tragedy-155 Passangers and Crew Killed".

"Knowledge will set you free, but freedom comes with responsibilities." I know that someone had to say that before me.

Wow, great clip. We should play the first half of that at the meeting.
Here is an interesting blurb I just read:
"In fact, of the 568 U.S. plane crashes between 1980 and 2000, more than 90 percent of crash victims survived [source: BBC]."
Link
Poof, there goes the "miracle."

What do you mean? Clearly, it's because so many people prayed...Darrel wrote:"In fact, of the 568 U.S. plane crashes between 1980 and 2000, more than 90 percent of crash victims survived [source: BBC]."

Now you can watch prayer in action. They actually have video of the crash landing.

And the 10 percent that didn't survive? Clearly they didn't pray hard enough or their fates were part of some plan which we are not privy to.Darrel wrote:DAR

In addition to prayer, this may have helped a little:
LinkPlanes can float, but the US Airways Airbus A-320 that crashed into the Hudson River Thursday had a better chance than most.
That's because it was equipped with a special device unique to Airbus planes that increased the likelihood it would stay on top of the water.
The device, called a "ditching switch," effectively seals the plane by closing valves and ventilation ports, a spokesman for the airline said.

Re: Huckabee "Power of Prayer"
That is a great fact to know since I fly about 40,000 miles a year. I have even had a few years where I flew even more than that. Of course everyone has heard the fact that flying is the safest mode of transportation but the problem is when something goes wrong it can be very catistrophic and it will involve many people. Plane crashes are exciting even more so than NASCAR.Darrel wrote:DAR

I wounder if the people that where on the Continental flight that crashed in Denver in last December if more of them got hurt since the plane skidded off the runway and no one had time to say anything but a quick prayer. Then there is the TWA Flight 800 that blew up on take off 17-18 years ago. I wounder if no one surrvived because no one had a chance to say even a short prayer. So would it stand to say that if you are worthy enough god may give you enought time to see if everyone in the plane prays then he will save you as in the US Airways flight. But if you are not worthy enough and I mean everyone on the plane, your plane will blow in half killing everyone on board because god did not give you the extra 5 minutes to say a prayer and check for worthy survivors.
What makes me so mad God gets the credit when everything goes right but it is mechanical or human failure when everything goes wrong. Then Huckabee runs out in front of a camera and says "see prayer really works". Your right Mike, the training and experience of the pilot had nothing to do with any of this.
Give God credit for the good and the bad.

According to the Bible, God does get credit for the bad stuff, too, because:
Isaiah 45:7
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil (calamity/disaster/depending on your translation): I the LORD do all these things.
So, it's actually god's fault the birds hit the plane in the first place. Just entertainment for him, I suppose.

Re: Huckabee "Power of Prayer"
If that is true then we can not assume anything about God. God's idea of love could be entirely different than humans. So why should we assume that God is all-loving.Mike Huckleberry wrote:A finite mind can not fully comprehend an infinite God.
Did all the passengers pray at the crash or are they just saying that? You know, the bible thumpers love to use tragedies and accidents as a boost to thier faith. I can't count how many 911 stories I've heard about prayer being answered. This all has the "fresh from the pulpit" aroma to me.
I now have my own blog.
