A minority of republican racists are going to tumble out of the closet and make major jackasses of themselves this election and embarrass the more evolved remainder. What a kibosh. This will backfire for the party as a whole and only hurt them as they take another set back in their attempt to distance the republican brand from the infamous stereotype of racist/bigot.

The Democratic party used to be horribly racist, but when party bigshots, especially in the Civil Rights era, turned egalitarian, the racists fled to the Republican party, which is now a very racist group.

The racist thing will be mostly the red states - but there are an unfortunate number of blue-collar class white, especially males, that buy into that as well - and not just southerners, either. What the Obama folks (and Galt) are calling racist from the Clintons are statements of fact as to who is voting for Obama v. who is voting for Hillary in the primaries. And it is a warning - if Obama can't figure out a way to appeal to the folks who are voting for Hillary, he's going to lose - and we all are going to lose with a McCain presidency.

The Rs have been trying to stir up more trouble between Obama and Hillary supporters by saying the Rs never would have thought up anything Hillary has said - that she's doing their work for them. Bull! Folks who morph Max Clelland into Osama bin Ladin don't have any problems thinking nasty. Hillary's stuff won't even make it to first base in the R contest for "competition" (nor should it, since most of isn't nasty at all, just pointing out problems Obama needs to address from the standpoint of a competitor). Anti-Clinton from the Rs is probably more of an issue than sexism, although that's there, too. Hillary's strong point is that while she's got a 49% unfavorable rating, 39% is Rs who wouldn't vote for her anyway. I don't know if Obama has that loyal a following. I suppose we'll see.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Republican Party is distancing itself from a vendor who sold campaign buttons at last weekend's state convention that asked, "If Obama is president ... will we still call it The White House?"

The state GOP party said Wednesday that it will donate the $1,500 rent it collected from the vendor, Republicanmarket.com, to Midwestern flood victims.

State GOP spokesman Hans Klingler said the party does not vet the merchandise being sold, but officials plan to discuss doing so in the future. The button sales at the convention in Houston were first reported in The Dallas Morning News.

"This vendor need not apply to another Texas GOP state convention," Klingler said. "We will neither tolerate nor profit from bigotry."

(PHILADELPHIA) As the crowd cheered at a Sarah Palin rally this morning in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a man in the audience grinned as he held up a stuffed monkey doll with a Barack Obama bumper sticker wrapped across its forehead.

...After Palin finished her remarks this morning, the man holding the stuffed monkey seemed to notice that a video camera was pointed at him, at which point he removed the Obama sticker from the doll’s head and crumpling it up in his hand. He then handed the doll to a young boy who was watching the rally from his father’s shoulders. The boy’s parents later told CBS News that they weren’t acquainted with the man who gave their son the stuffed monkey.

The owner of this parking lot has declared that cars with pro-Obama stickers can no longer park there. He intends to have this policy until election day, and he says he's offended by Obama running for president.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A San Bernardino County Republican group has distributed a newsletter picturing Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on a $10 bill adorned with a watermelon, ribs and a bucket of fried chicken.

...Diane Fedele, president of the group, said she had no racist intent.

"I never connected," she told the newspaper. "It was just food to me. It didn't mean anything else."

...Sheila Raines of San Bernardino, a black member of the club, complained about the image to Fedele.

"This is what keeps African-Americans from joining the Republican Party," she said. "I'm really hurt. I cried for 45 minutes."

do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes
positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in
another when there is a color difference.

A Midland man told police that his walking on the sidewalk in full Knights of Ku Klux Klan regalia while toting a handgun had nothing to do with Barack Obama winning the presidency.

Later, however, he admitted that Obama's victory was the catalyst for his display.

Midland police questioned Randy G. Gray II, 30, who was walking on the sidewalk along Eastman near North Saginaw Wednesday afternoon while waving an American flag, but released him because he wasn't breaking any laws.

RACISM IS REAL AND QUANTIFIABLE!

The following is taken from minutes of Senior Demos of Washington County meeting held on Tue, Nov 18 at Western Sizzlin, Springdale, AR:

"Program: Stephen [Smith] welcomed our speakers. He finds studying the election results fascinating and noted that the NY Times called Arkansas the “reddest of the red states”. Is race really a major factor here? That’s the topic Dr. Todd Shields and Dr. Pearl Ford addressed. Dr. Shields is Associate Director of the Fulbright Institute and the Director of the Diane Blair Center of Southern Politics and Society. Dr. Ford is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Arkansas. She is also affiliated with the African American Studies Program. Their topic was "Arkansas and the Lack of Support for Obama's Historic Victory: The Continued Role of Race".

All of the data presented was from the recently completed Arkansas poll and came from the citizens of Arkansas. The researchers and polltakers wanted to understand what drives vote choice here. Utilizing a technique that incorporated questions that measured symbolic racism, the conclusions of their statistically valid research are:

1) Even without campaigning in AR, Obama’s candidacy activated symbolic racism in AR.

2) Symbolic racism was one of the most significant factors in predicting voter choice in AR.

3) Symbolic racism allowed Republicans to make gains in nearly every county in AR.

4) Initial results suggest a similar pattern in Georgia, but the overall results were different because of the increased turnout among Obama supporters.

Copies of the presentation were available entitled “Symbolic Racism and 2008 Presidential Election in Arkansas” sponsored by the Diane Blair Center for Southern Politics and Society were available for distribution. The presentation elicited many comments and questions. "

North Carolina's top liquor regulator resigned Tuesday after sending an e-mail that reportedly showed a watermelon patch outside an altered photo of the White House.

Gov. Beverly Perdue demanded and received the resignation of Alcoholic Beverage Commission Chairman Douglas A. Fox after the e-mail mocking the first black U.S. president was shown to Perdue's staff.

"I have accepted Doug Fox's letter of resignation. E-mails and images of this nature are offensive and unacceptable," Perdue said in a statement.

In his resignation letter, Fox offered to stay on until his successor was ready, but Perdue spokesman David Kochman said the resignation was immediate.
