Oh no! Terrible news. He died Sunday. I was at a convention in CA and just learned of this now. He will have to be our highlighted freethinker at the meeting this Saturday. The Religion is Bullshit is my favorite bit too.

"Death and tribute

On June 22, 2008, Carlin was admitted to St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California after complaining of chest pain. He died later that day at 5:55 p.m. PDT of heart failure at the age of 71. Two of the networks he had an influence on changed their schedule in tribute to Carlin. HBO devoted several hours to broadcast eleven of Carlin's HBO specials on June 25 to 28, 2008, while NBC scheduled the premiere episode of Saturday Night Live which Carlin guest hosted."

Email from a Carlin fan:

NBC to honor Carlin with historic replay
"Saturday Night Live" will not be live this weekend. It won't even be from this century. With the death of George Carlin, NBC has gone into its video vault and will re-air the very first SNL from 1975. Carlin, already a famous comedian by then, was the very first guest host. "He was gracious, fearless, and most important of all, funny," recalled SNL creator and Executive Producer Lorne Michaels.

TVBR observation: What a landmark show. Not only will we be recalling all of the laughs that George Carlin gave us over the years, but we'll be remembering some other great comics who died much too young. We'll again see original SNL cast members John Belushi and Gilda Radner. Also, Andy Kaufman, then little known, was a guest performer on that first SNL

Five short classic Carlin rants, all in a row (mostly about war to begin with):

That was great. I'll see if we can convert it and play it at a meeting.
