"We're brainwashing our children" about global war

Post by Abel »

As we all know now, Global Temps have held steady for the past 10 years. (Not going up like Algore said they will)

Expert: "We're brainwashing our children" about global warming

Another post from guest blogger Rick Neale of Florida Today, from the National Hurricane Conference in Orlando:

William Gray, the well-known Colorado State University hurricane forecaster, routinely uses the annual National Hurricane Conference as a platform to bash global warming. In a statement to Florida Today, Gray argued that the scientific consensus on global warming is bogus — and "a mild form of McCarthyism has developed toward those scientists who do not agree" that mankind is in danger.

"We are also brainwashing our children on the warming topic. We have no better example than Al Gore's alarmists and inaccurate movie which is being shown in our schools and being hawked by warming activists with little or no meteorological-climate background," Gray wrote.

Some scientists believe global warming will actually decrease — not increase — the number of hurricanes that form over the Atlantic Ocean each year. Last Friday, in the final session of the hurricane conference, a pair of climate experts said rising sea-surface temperatures in and near the Caribbean could strengthen vertical wind shear. Robust wind shear is the bane of hurricanes, as it tends to tear apart cyclones during their formative stages.

"If (global warming) were to happen, that is an effect which should be more hostile to hurricane building," said Thomas Knutson, research meteorologist with the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory in Princeton, N.J.

Knutson and Chris Landsea, science and operations officer with the National Hurricane Center in Miami, said historic observation data and computer models debunk doomsday scenarios that foresee armadas of deadly hurricanes, slamming into the Southeast. "Any (hurricane) trend we're seeing due to global warming — and I do agree global warming's real, and manmade causes contribute to it — really has very limited impact, very tiny changes," Landsea said.

Both scientists referred to the global warming studies of ocean climatologist Kerry Emanuel of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Emanuel noted that from 1972-2004, Atlantic surface temperatures and hurricane intensity were closely linked.

I only wish the the free thinkers would think- instead of being knee jerk liberals.

OK, show that this is true. Talk is cheap. Where is your evidence? Why do idiot global warming deniers always post quotations and ignore requests to stick around and support their claims?

Answer: They know they don't have evidence. Like creationists, who likewise have to ignore science to keep their views intact, global warming deniers have to cry "conspiracy!" and pretend they are being ignored and outshouted. But if they could support their claims with evidence, both creationists and global warming deniers would find themselves in a crowd of scientists instead of a confederacy of dunces.

Abel, as I have told "Galt" many times, would it be too much to ask that you post science (and your pseudo-science) material, in the science section? For the love of everything precious and holy, is that really too hard to figure out? I don't think so.

Now the roast.

That would be one way to put it, but it is rather dishonest and deceptive. Here is another way (from a post I made roasting a GW denier August 13, '06.)

"More broadly, the panel examined other recent research comparing the pronounced warming trend over the last several decades with temperature shifts over the last 2,000 years. It expressed high confidence that warming over the last 25 years exceeded any peaks since 1600. And in a news conference here today, three panelists said the current warming was probably, but not certainly, beyond any peaks since the year 900."

Translation: We are likely hotter now than in the last 1,100 years, and we have gotten to this level of hot in a mere few decades.

Nothing to roast in this one Abel. A Hurricane forecaster, non-climatologist, has an obscure and extreme minority opinion about what drives hurricanes. Don't care. And this has been covered before. Boring.

You are in no position to chide others for not thinking and "being knee jerk."

The science that refutes your tired anti-GW beliefs has nothing whatsoever to do with liberalism. If you had the science on your side, and I assure you, you do not, you would be winning these arguments instead of getting roasted. I wish I could roast your article more but it really doesn't say very much. Try to do better.

Just so anyone who may have staggered into this thread doesn't feel they have completely wasted their time, let's take a moment to learn something new about the global warming issue shall we?

GW deniers like to go on about how the scientists and the extensive IPCC climate models are vastly over-estimating and overstating the problem. Not so. The record is now showing conclusively that they have actually been too conservative and consistently understating the problem and speed of global warming.

Abel! Read. Learn.

Scientists have underestimated current climate change:

* “The recent [Arctic] sea-ice retreat is larger than in any of the (19) IPCC [climate] models” — and that was a Norwegian expert in 2005. The retreat has accelerated in the past two years.

* The ice sheets appear to be shrinking “100 years ahead of schedule.” That was Penn State climatologist Richard Alley in March 2006. In 2001, the IPCC thought that neither Greenland nor Antarctica would lose significant mass by 2100. They both already are.

* The temperature rise from 1990 to 2005 — 0.33°C — was “near the top end of the range” of IPCC climate model predictions.

* Sea-level rise from 1993 and 2006 — 3.3 millimetres per year as measured by satellites — was higher than the IPCC climate models predicted.

* The tropics are expanding faster than the models project.

* Since 2000, carbon dioxide emissions have grown faster than any IPCC model had projected.

It gets worse.

Al Gore has a new slide show in which he explains how things are worse than previously anticipated.

I couldn't copy and paste the link, for some reason, but here it is typed manually:

Here.

The link is to a video of Al Gore giving the new slide show.

That's a great speech/slideshow - and Al trying so hard to get us to the point that Winston Churchill called upon Britain to attain in 1940 - "that if this empire endures a thousand years, they will say THIS was her finest hour."
