It's time for the Halloween meeting of the Fayetteville Freethinkers.
Just kidding, sort of.
Our meeting will be at 2:00pm this Saturday, October 27th, in the main meeting room of the Fayetteville Public Library.
On the agenda: life and death.
It's probably safe to say that Freethinkers and Humanists consider themselves a little more rational, clear minded and accepting of the fact of their inevitable demise. But are we really? Do we walk the walk? Do we even take the rather simple measure of making a will so we don't leave problems for our loved ones and/or the state to sort out? Unless you plan to live forever (lots of people do) you might want to join us in learning how easy it is to take this very rational step. Our favorite attorney, Greg Klebanoff, will give a simple and instructive presentation on how you can make out a will and even have it be in accordance with Arkansas law. Bring a pen and paper.
Phil Ferguson (who received the coveted Fayetteville Freethinker award at our last meeting) will give a presentation about morals and the Bible story of Lot.
After intermission, Doug Krueger and Greg Klebanoff will do a demonstrative debate about dualism. Dualism is the view that there exist two primary substances: physical matter and immaterial spirit. We have a physical body, but it interacts with the nonphysical soul or mind. Greg Klebanoff will argue for dualism, Doug Krueger against. Greg is not a dualist, but we couldn't find a real dualist who was both willing and able to defend this view.
We will have the best of the funny bits from the Internet and updates on the latest Fayetteville Freethinker activities, including our road trip to Eureka Springs where Doug gave a sermon on atheism at a church!
